I was wondering if anyone can tell me where I could find out how many of each colour Monaro was built.

Reason I ask is that I have a Purple Haze Monaro and I haven't seen too many around. I have the only one in my town that I know of and I've only ever seen one other. I know Monaros are no longer produced in this colour as it wasn't very popular and I just wondered exactly how many are out there.

cheers

Fine choice in colour :D

I've been trying to find this info out for a while with no luck. Even tried senoir management at Holden and they had little knowledge of how to find out. The best way was to find out how many purple instrument clusters were ordered for production as that was the only part that was installed in all Purple Haze Monaros regardless of other options.

I do know that approx 50% of Purple Haze Monaros also had the matching interior trim and most were sold as Autos. A total of 14 were optioned with a factory spoiler (that info from the recent Monaro book). My personal estimation is that less than 100 were made in this colour but would also love some official statistic.

Cheers!

I didn't think there would be many. I bought mine just before the CV8R (of which there only 350 built) limited edition came out. I commented to the Holden salesman when I took my car in for its first service that maybe I should of waited as it would be cool to have a limited edition Monaro.

He said my Monaro was more limited than the CV8R as there was only about 60 Purple Haze Monaros produced. He wasn't sure on the exact number but he had to do some chasing to find the one I wanted which is manual and has the matching trim.

A lot of people ask me what was the original colour when I bought it and there surprised when I tell them that is the original colour

I love the colour and it's nice to be different :)

I wonder how many were made in Barbados? I have seen some Delft and Vespers Series 1 and !!, but no Barbados other than mine. Someone in the US posted that Barbados GTOs were only about 5% of production.

I think you will find his SS is a paint test car, I have seen all Monaro colours on S or SS commodores. They use them guage reaction to the colours I believe.

I own a Factory produced purple haze ss commodore, I bought it from the dealer who explained to me that it was used as a display car in shows to get a reaction to the colour from the general public. Apparently there were 10 ss commodores produced in this colour.

Interesting thread guys.

I have a series II in Vespers Blue with cobalt leather. I've only ever seen 1 other on the road (it had the black leather) plus Peter Starrs Monaro.

As you all say, it would be interesting to see how many were made in each of the "limited" colours. AFAIK Vespers Blue was series II only, although it is being used on 4 door variants now.

Cheers,

Scott

Holden routinely test out new colours on S and SS commodores the model prior to release. They do approx 10 of each colour to guage reaction. I've seen devil yellow VX S and SS commodores getting around...

Pardon my ignorance, but is the Purple Haze color you guys are refering to the same as the Cosmo Purple that was offered on newer Monaros and our Pontiac GTO's?

Purple Haze was a lighter colour then Cosmos and offered on the series II Monaro. I believe the GTO was based of the series III Monaro. Purple Haze and Vespers Blue were Series II colours that did not continue on to Series III and were replaced by Cosmos Purple and Impulse Blue.

There is a 'Purple' VX SS for sale under the used car section on the following site...looks a bit like Cosmo but might be Purple Haze. If you do a search under 'Used Cars' Commodore it appears on page 2 of results.

Very nice.

I've seen both a devil yellow and a hothouse green VXII SS before.
