people in the US are claiming LS2s are coming - GTO pilot builds, crates of LS2s coming this way. A few weeks back a few insiders on this board were saying 'no way'.
In fact the last I heard was 'HSV only'. Any update?

I gather HSV versions ONLY?
I'm not sure if this should be in the private section?

Not sure but i think LS2 is for American GTO only. Holden might not be getting what everyone is expecting.

It begs the question, have GM discontinued production of LS1 yet? If so, maybe they have a huge stock, which Holden might have pre-ordered for VZ.
It wouldn't make much sense to me for GM to be producing both engines en masse.

GM produce Holdens yearly quota of engines in a very short amount of time so it wouldnt matter if it was discontinued.

30,000 LS1 engines for local market/yr
20,000 (est) for export/yr
lifecycle of VZ...2 years...
That's 100,000 LS1s that need to be stored somewhere.

I'm guessing that they would be stored in the US or there and here if this is the case. Though i'd put my hand up for a few if they run out of space :D
Since the Pickups have LS1's i guess maybe that they won't get the Gen 4 straught away so the engine might no be discontinued as soon as the Gen 4 is released.

The trucks use the iron block, hence why I asked the original question. The truck engines are essentially a separate line. ;)

I heard HSV will get the 6.0 gen4 by the end of the year, then at a later date Holden will swap over as well and HSV will upgrade to a 6.2gen4.
Sounds all good to me :D
(just hope they upgrade the rear to accomadate some bigger rubber)
source: cant remember, but I know too many people close to holden, so it could have been anyone
or/
perhaps it came to me in a dream - probably the most reliable place to aquire info

It actually uses the 5.3L LS1...but will be getting the 6.0L LS2 shortly.
BTW, for those interested, the car on my avatar is a Chevrolet SSR.

All-new aluminum block casting incorporates provisions for external knock sensors and revised oil galleries; external sensors improve serviceability
I found this part amusing...hope that rather then watching the oil it traps it instead.:stick:

It actually uses the 5.3L LS1.
The 5.3 Vortec engine in the SSR has the code LM4.
The LS1 only comes in 5.7 form.
The 5.3 also comes with codes of LM7 and L59.

Yeah, I meant to say Vortec 5.3, which is a truck engine (iron block), which is a variation of the LS1.

I bet you won't find anything amusing about the LS2 if it lands here sooner than we all think.

Yep, you are correct on all counts...
"Standard features include a 300-horsepower Vortec 5300 aluminum small block V8, a power retractable hardtop, cast-aluminum 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels and ZQ8 Sport Suspension with a rear five-link design."

I don't pretend to know a great deal about the SSR but I tripped over it browsing through GMinsidenews and in a post by Snake_Skinner dated May 6 he says "Today I saw the SSR with the LS2 and 6 speed manual tranny. I got to poke my head in but they wouldn't let me start it. It looks no different than any other SSR . What "the man" told me was the LS2 will not be an option but will "phase out" the current 5.3 litre engine as the standard engine."...
Either he was told a line by the salesman  or else they've already started the LS2 over there. Dunno..

400 HP sounds a bit low though thats only 222 kw, we have that now in the LS1 and they are detuned from US spec.

I implied 400bhp at the flywheel.
222rwkw is roughly 400bhp (flywheel).

You probably won't believe this but I actually hope it lands here ASAP, I'll give credit to a good engine no matter who designed it.

An Aussie on ls1gto.com posted that he saw a few preproduction 2005 GTOs being assembled and they each had the LS2 installed.

According to my Collins diary 1.341022 HP = .7457 KW
I don't know which is right

Jason:
222 kw * 1.34 = 298 hp
298 hp * 0.746 = 222 kw
