Reading a quote from a Policeman commenting on an area he OBVIOUSLY knows sweet fark all about (i.e. 0-100 in 18secs stock to 10secs modded?) is just laughable. It really is a joke to have such an ill-informed/uneducated person commenting on such an emotive subject as this. He must drive one of those 1L 3 cyl Hybrid cars that'll only reach 100km/h if they're on a tralier behind a REAL car.
If the Police are reading this forum, PLEASE PLEASE nominate a spokeperson in each state who actually understands the subject matter to deal with the media

Absolutely!
Surely this bloke is confusing 0-100km times with 400m quarter mile times? - refer the comment about the prized "10 seconds".

Dear me, once again N.S.W. Police show their extreme lack of ignorance and show their serious lack of knowledge of cars. Hell I mean gee did the twits named i this article ever thing "hang on we drive family sized cars too and can accelerate from 0-100km/hr quicker then 18sec". Christ what next turn up on the door step of all car manafactures and tell them that they are not to make cars cover 0-100 in under 20 seconds.
Whilst I'm all for having seriously defectable cars taken off the road, i.e. cut springs, extra holes drilled into mag wheels etc etc maybe the N.S.W. Police Service could better spend their time educating themselves in what actually alreadt comes straight from the factory. In all seriousness all that article has done to any half educated person is make them look like total ignorant fools!
Then again with John Watkins at the helm what more could we expect in N.S.W. :fewl: (I only used the fewl emoticon as I couldn't find the knob one)

This is very sad, the rationale for this action is to stop "...them hitting a tree at 160km/h"
Most cars have the potential of doing 160km/h, are we now taking legal action against people for what they might do cause they are capable of it ? What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty. Pitty help anyone who owns a Porshe, Ferrari, Lambo, they are clearly knocking on deaths door and need saving from themselves.
I guess they better arrest me for just about everything they have a law for as I am capable of doing most of it.
I hope the opions shared by Senior Constable David Fisher are not representative of the Police community, ......but I fear they are.

"blower valves" that allowed unburnt gasses to escape without being recycled into the engine
I still fail to see how BOV's which vent to atmosphere on EFI cars is a pollution issue. They merely vent compressed air, there is no fuel in this mix at all (unless you have some kind of alcohol injection). If this compressed air is illegal then every mechanic etc who uses air tools should be booked for air pollution!!!
The only thing BOV's could even be considered a risk to the environment is noise pollution when they vent, nothing more. :teach:

On a vehicle fitted with an airflow meter, the venting of measured air, will cause the vehicle to run excessively rich and hence screw up emissions immediately after every gearchange.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I was thinking the exact same thing. Police in Q.L.D. are always on the look out for this but it's only because of the noise factor nothing else
IIV8II, You have a valid point too. You never always beleive everything you read in newspapers. It goes to show the ignorance of the jurno as well as if they had of performed any research into the topic at all they would have found most family car already run sub 10sec for the 0-100km/hr dash, wether it be a V6 or V8. I can't beleive that this went to press without being checked by Police Media Liasons like usually happens

Great to see another Journalist conducting some extensive preparation and researching the relevant background for their submission. They should have a disclaimer at the end of the peice quoting that it may be a fictional story.
Remeber the Journalist's mission statement ...

There's a perfect example of what I (and others) are talking about. Get your facts straight before you put 'pen to paper'... this happened in Vic, not NSW. See how easy it is to make an error? :p

but of course no yellow stickers for them.

This would solely depend on where the Air FLow Meter was placed. If the BOV's are before the AFM then this would not hold true also this does not hold true for any car running MAP.

True, but *most* factory turbo cars (most of the popular jap imports) have an airflow meter which is placed before the turbo. The BOV obviously has to be placed AFTER the turbo...

Then there's the fact that most jap turbos come with BOV from the factory, so that kind of stuffs that theory up. One day a mate brought round his Skyline he just bought to show off, he said "oh man, it needs a blow off valve" told him to open the bonnet, pointed out the factory one to him,
"Oh, well I need a louder one then!" Even a VL turbo has a factory BOV. Not sure that the small amount of air that flows through a BOV is going to cause a huge upset in emissions and kill Whales, or Trees, if you're a tree hugging cop.

The stock ones are recirculating. Put an atmo rice valve on there and I guarantee that the car will run rich and sluggish after changes, blowing soot (and flames if the cats been removed) for a short period of time. That is the emissions problem.
Also, stock nissan BOV's tend to leak at higher boost. (but then raising boost is illegal as well.)

so why dosnt the article actually mention what illegal modifications they are targeting....i mean you can install a superchager to an ls1 car quite legally....surley this could hit 160km/h :bash:
there is a picture of a monster tacho....so they are targeting rice? If thats the case then good on them!

my car only gets to 150m/hr - that article suggests to me that i am perfectly safe. should i mention the fact that the wheels shudder real bad at that speed and the bonnet has a horrible habit of shaking up and down under the force of the wind?
