Mods - I apologise if this is in the wrong place, just not sure where to post this thread, and I wanted all Darwin members to see this
Is anyone interested in a photo shoot for promoting drag racing (street meets) at Hidden Valley? This can be organised by TheHeat, but I wanted to find out how much support we would recieve before going ahead with the photo shoot. Also, I am hopeful to arrange a 7-sec Camaro owned by a friend of mine (if it fits into the street meet theme and he agrees) and a couple of full-on drag bikes owned by some other friends for the promo.
The idea behind this is to encourage people to take drag racing off the streets and onto the strip. If these people see photos of everyday cars like ours that they too own (or would like to beat), hopefully it will help them make the decision to head for the strip for their kicks. Also, it can help Darwinites become aware of the LS1 forum, and other forums like this one, to promote the performance car scene here in Darwin.
Nothing has been set in concrete, and in what form the photos will be I don't know, we just want to measure the interest out there.
C'mon guys, you all have cars worthy of being in a promo like this (even VH's...) and we can show the community that there is such a thing as a responsible performance car owner.
TheHeat has been in contact with me too and given me a heads up about this. He didn't give me any details as yet.
But count me in. (Hopefully it is soon before I go away for work again!!)

Count me in too. Come on Mark, where is my personal phone call? ;)
My brother is interested in doing some photos. He is an amatuer photographer but a damn good on. He has a digital SLR camera and is very good at stylish shots. I have him to thank for my avator :)

Thanks Nawdy...guys I will arrange a photo shoot as soon as our ride is back on the black stuff. (having a little bit of work done in preparation for the 18th).
The next street meet is 18th June. I will be endeavouring to do some promotional stuff in the week commencing the 14th in the media and try and get you guys involved. It would be nice to see some other cars in the news other than ours as we ALL benefit from the meets. Given the amount of 'cop bashing' going on in the forum of late it would also be good to do some decent promo shots and post them here to illustrate that we all can really work together and up here in the Top End, performance cars, responsible drivers, racers and the law can all live in harmony (and share the buzz of racing on the track)....
If the Darwin Ls1'ers or in fact anyone that has a nice performance ride wants to message me and give me a number I will contact you when I am going to get the shoot together. If you know any professional photographers that are available, by all means let me know.

My brother isn't a professional but wouldn't mind the opportunity to participate. Examples of his work are at http://pictures.pigmy.org/gallery/

Guys,
I need 4 - 6 hot looking clubbies, (more if ya got em) SS's or other hot looking street cars at Hidden Valley on the 16th June. I have contacted the paper and will have a photographer there. It will be for a story to promote the street meet on the Friday 18th June. I would like to do some form of public display, showing etc each week we have a street meet to not only promote the event and get as many racers to the meets as possible but also to educate the public about the events and the fact that not all drivers of high performance cars are irresponsible hoons...we want to dispel that myth in the Top End and show the rest of the country how it can work together well to develop the sport for the enjoyment and education of everyone. Any of the Darwin guys that are interested please message me and I will give you the contact details and timings.

One thing to think about, do you want to extend this to more than just high end Commodores? There are the turbos and younger kids around Darwin that may want to see some older/cheaper cars so they can relate. If you only show $40k+ cars it may turn them off initially.

Guys..all welcome, thanks for the support. Just message me your details and I will contact you and let you know the final times etc and what we are going to do...either that or you can email me. The Heat can move from the track so we are a bit limited in locations thats the only problem....but wait till the trailer is finished then we can do some classy stuff....we want to do a poster for give aways for kids....so If Jsstry's brother is available and has an artistic eye we should come up with something great

I'm in as well, plus:
1 x VY 1 Tonner with R8 front
1 x VP Clubsport
1 x VTR1000 (if wanted)
1 x GSXR750 with 1100 motor (drag bike)
1 x Huyabusa
Maybes are:
1 x Camaro (drag car)
1 x Willys Coupe (drag car)
1 x VY II R8
1 x LTD (around XE model)
1 x XR6
1 x Huyabusa (another one!!)
1 x GSXR1100 (drag bike)
Plus maybe a few more that may be interested. Hopefully this give you enough variety for a few posters, plus some of these guys are regular drag racers at Hidden Valley so they help out with points of view if this becomes a newspaper article. All they are asking for in return so far is a couple of photos of their rides for their own use on a floppy disk ect.
Will PM you about location suggestions.

Thanks guys...we have the track booked for wednesday 5.00pm but as it is a private practice, no one can do any passes, burnouts etc. If the guys come down it is for a photo shoot only..I am responsible for the track and at a private practices you must have separate insurance. Re media coming down I have advised them, we are restricted to the track for any photos and cant go to other locations. It will only be media for a photo as I believe the article is going to be written beforehand as the journo has to go away.
We have to be careful not to make this bigger than Ben Hur though. If it is going to be a means of coordinating everyone together so someone can take some good piccies, great no probs. I dont know what the media want to do or how they want to attack it yet...but I am sure we can organise some good photos....

Before we get too carried away with worrying about people with <$40k cars, lets not loose site of what I am doing this for....The Heat is going to have a test run,...I would normally be doing something in the press to help raise interest and promote the street meet for Friday 18th June. That is the primary reason for the photo and the media article. I suggested getting a few guys and cars together for a 'staged' promotional shoot to publicise the street meet.
If others can now benefit from the opportunity, thats great, but lets remember the reason we are doing it...we want to promote the street meets, educate the public about drag racing and get spectators to come and support it.

I don't think it should be too much of a problem - as soon as the guys found out it was to promote drag racing, and help get people off the street and onto the strip, they said yes without thinking twice.
I will ensure that these other participants are aware it will be a static display only, so it shouldn't be a problem, as ensuring 'The Heat' drag car is in the thick of things.
It will be a great opportunity to pick the brains of four of the fastest drag racers in the NT. These guys have done hundreds of passes and each one of them have run sub 10sec passes (the Vette - it's not a Camaro :o , does regular 7 sec passes and the Willys Coupe 8 sec), so it should be educational as well... . Plus we'll have a chance to check out the cars/bikes :D .
Should be a good shoot!!!
