Anyone know of a formula to calculate 0 to 60mph times?
I am constantly being asked what the car will do and do not really know if it's under 5 seconds or over or by how far . :confused: Given my best time sheet of 12.459 for the Quarter, is it possible to estimate the time by using the trap points below?

0 to 60ft = 1.79
0 to 330ft =5.187
0 to 660ft = 7.983 at 86.91 mph
0 to 1000ft =10.414
ET 12.459 at 110.16 mph

Try here: http://www.cars-cars-cars.org/0-60-Times-Calculator.htm

or the much harder way here: http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/physics6.htm :p

:confused: now I'm even more confused........I'll sit down later with pen and paper...meantime I'll just call it at 5 :)

if you cant work out a numerical formular, how about a text one
0-60mph = GONE

Now that, I can relate too :driving:

Markone I just tried some calculations & its fairly close. You need your FWHP x .9 then you divide that figure into the weight of the cars kg.
So 300FWKW = 402FWHP x .9 = 361.8
Weight of car 1700kg / 361.8 =4.7

Thanxs :) ,That has to be close as the car dyno's from 217 to 227rwkw

Do a graph (on graph paper) this will me 99% accurate. Obviously plote speed verse time... The calculations people have posted will not work for your car as you have a very thick torque curve and some serious rubber... Also note that these calculations are strictly a quide worked out on averages of european cars

Every saturday morning after i wash the car i hand time my 0-100Km/h on a quite back street... Its not that accurate but pretty good... To verifiy i have had a couple of mates time it with me (one being a trusty ford supporter so we was critical at every moment)... i got 6.2 with 3 people in my car and half a tank of gas with standard tyres (M6 VY SV8 series 1) over three runs now with my new tyres and just me and little fuel i can consistantly get 6.0sec but when i get it perfect i can get 5.7sec

I estimate your time to be 4.8-4.9sec

either way I would love to know the result of your graph!

The only equation I can remember is the one for distance:

s = u t + 1/2 a t(squared)

where:

s = distance
u = start velocity
t = time
a = acceleration (in m/s/s)

(My brain hurts just thinking about this!)

Hi

I beleive it is no slower than 4.6 seconds. The SV8's are awesome off the mark. Add a good tune, tyres, diff gears and 12.4 quarters for proof........mate the 0-60 could even be 4.5 seconds.

And mine hurt's just reading the above :D

ps: any idea's as to where and who could correcty time the cars for me in QLD ?

i dont know the answers but I found this

http://www.stealth316.com/2-calc-hp-et-mph.htm

there is also a link to a spreadsheet (below) which plots 0-60 vs ET for a whole range of cars, looks like you might have a mid 4 second car there..

I just brought up a similar run in a drag simulator i have and it suggests around 3.9s @ 230ft out for 0-60MPH or 4.1-4.2 for 0-100kph

Its on your timesheet. Your 330" time is basically your 0-100m.

0-100km/h not 100m is the question isnt it

If you plugged EFI live into your car I'd say you would be able to work it out to within 1/10th of a second.

The link "Dean" posted is as close a calculation as you'll get:-

http://www.cars-cars-cars.org/0-60-Times-Calculator.htm

It works very consistently.

Another way is to accelerate from 50-112kph (30-70mph) against a good timer, you'll find that will be almost identical to the 0-60 (0-100) time and this weight (in kgs)/hp formula too.

There are a couple of products like this... Looks like they are only $360 AU...
I might have to get me 1!

This does look like the most practical solution to finding the answer..time to load the laptop and go cable hunting :) ,shall try it out next test&tune and post the result.Thanx for replies :)

Umm, isn't that what the stopwatch in the trip computer is for? :hide:

Stopwatch?

Is that exclusive to the VY models only?

i've tried the stopwatch method, bit hard coordinating the launch and pressing the button again at 100km i reckon, way too imprecise given what you're trying to measure

It'd have to be a bit more precise than trying to calculate a figure from the power and weight of the car. You could always have someone starting & watching it from the passenger side....

You'll still loose a miniumn of 4/10ths in the calculations by reaction time, start and finish...and how do you determine when the car hit's 100kph? ....guesswork from the speedo or wait for the speed alert chime to cut in?.....end result will be near a full second out either way....my speed alert is set at 175kph for the quarter mile,by the time it goes off the speedo is already reading 180kph plus....too much guesswork.I think EFI live is the way to go.....imo

I think we should all invest in the new G Tech pro's...

The new model is accurate to 5/100's of a second and the physics will give you a true power ouput and torque curve... allot more accurate than a dyno ever will (as long as you use it correctly!!!!)

It gives print outs of power verses speed verse RPM etc... This is the shit!

An accelerometer more accurate than a dyno...
I'd like to see that!

We've been down this road before .with poor misguided souls claiming low 12's
for *stock* cars.....matters were brought to light when the dubious G-tech
was found to be providing over enthusiastic owners with times and not
an official time-slip from the appropriate raceway.

I would say around 5 seconds give or take a few tenths.
Stop watch is the best.

Just to make things more difficult Isn't 60mph around 96.5 kph ?

Yep.

100 kph = 62.14 mph
60 mph = 96.56 kph
