Got this from PF....
Anyway, we recieved a job this afternoon of a lady that told us her car 'just stopped'...
When we arrived, we asked her what happened...
She told my driver the car was overheating so she pulled into a servo and rang her husband.
He husband told her to check the oil & water...
She did...
She called him back and said 'The dipstick shows enough oil, but there is no water 'in it'...
She told us the husband said 'Well fill it up FULL of water then you ****** idiot!!!"
So she did...
She drove off & about 2 minutes later the car made a bang/bang/bang noise and then went scrrrrrreeeeeeeccchhhhhh....
My driver then asked to have a look at the engine and checked the water again for her... It looked fine...
He then went to check the oil...
Upon pulling the dipstick out he found it to be overflowing with white/browny gooy stuff...
He asked he where she put all the water and she showed him...
She said "In the hole under the yellow cap there and it took SO much water"....
The oil cap...
The car she was driving????
A BA GT-P!!!!!
Gotta hate those damn plastic shopping bag's. :hide: :slap:

OOOHHH NOOOO
Man thats a sad story :(
Couldnt she have asked the people in the servo?
I guess the engine died from hydraulic lock? The guy probably deserved it for being such a prick to his missus though.
also, is overheating a common fault?
Ok, a broad general statement, men know about cars and women don’t.
If by chance, you cherish your motor vehicle (and with one of such status) then I suggest to males, put a weekend aside for you and your woman, for a “Basic Car Maintenance” Class 101.
Teach her about the oil and water (and petrol if she is that clueless eheh), teach her about changing a tyre, teach her about the battery and leads and just bloody anything that is prone to running out/un-doing with general motoring if something was to happen while she’s out at the shops..(probably buying your meals for the week, or clothes to put on your back :p )
It is sad that the guy has lost it at his wife, when clearly the woman isn’t knowledgeable in that field, so he should have taken the time to show her the basic ropes.
So I say SUFFER to the bloke.. mwuahahah KARMA BUDDY!

Thats probably because, as a general rule women have very little interest in cars. I certainly now a lot of woman only check anything in their car if a warning light comes on or it doesnt run right.
Still my missus wouldnt put water in the crankase (i think).

no one in garage noticed her filling the wrong hole either, esp if it took bucket loads ?
no warrantee for that.

Exactly, and I think it’s in everyone’s best interests to make them aware.
Men and woman have their own roles, and some of the time, the roles intertwine which is fantastic.
But for example:
- If someone doesn’t know about cooking, you tell them, don’t leave a pan with oil on the stove for X period of time, because it can burst into flames.
- A child doesn’t know not to touch an iron, because it will burn their hand, so you have to teach them not to touch it.
- Someone not knowing the mechanics of a car, must be taught how to use it and maintain it.

Agreed.
Basic, oil, water, tyre checks should be part of licencing requirements.
If you don't know how to keep your car ALIVE, you shouldn't be allowed to drive it.

I'm not to sure about this story as I would've thought Ford would have some sort of roadside assist available for that level of car considering Holden have it available on all it's new cars (call a number and they send out NRMA, RACQ, etc.).
It's the guys fault totally in this case as he should have:
a) Spoken to his wife nicely as she is in a bad situation (he's an asshole)
b) Asked her for her location and told her to sit in the shade and make herself comfortable as he rings the appropriate motoring authority (NRMA etc.) and gets them to her assistance.
c) Asked her to ring him to provide an update on how things are going or if she is unsure about anything.
d) If possible get of his fat arse and help her out himself and buy her a coffee afterwards when they go to the nearest Holden dealer to buy a HSV :D
That's why I got Holden Assist in my SS, any problems my wife just has to press a button on the rearvision mirror and speak to an operator and they know her location via satellite and get help to her. Some might say Holden is saving marriages :D

NO WAY! DON"T LET HIM ANYWHERE NEAR AN HSV!
But you are right, how good is Holden Assist. Even my mum can use it!

Or saving them after you've spent all night on the forums and all weekend messing with the car or at the track. :D

According to the guy who posted that on another forum (he's a tow truck driver), its a known problem in some BA's where the radiator basically farks up or something....Apparantly the ford dealer had been trying to contact the husband (owner of the car) for some time about repairing it...
no warrantee for that.
You would think so, wouldnt you....
From the thread...
O.K, we dropped it off at the dealer today and had a lot of eager 'Principals' waiting for it's arrival...
They had rang the owners of the car a number of times as the build number is in the middle of a few that had the recalled problem... (ie. 1 2 3 4 6 7 8 9 had come in but not 5) They were leaving messages on the owners mesaage bank but no reply had been made...
When the Dealer Principal' told me the e-mail from Ford Assist was 'waiting', he looked at the rego' and quote "felt very cold for a second /quote...
Even colder when (as he did not know WHY we where towing it) when I told him what the driver done... They checked the motor and it is completley locked... Probally bent pushrods ect... They motor will be replaced...
So, to answer a few questions being asked here... The owners phone number they were ringing, was the husbands... Yes, the husband knew the car could have a leak...
And to back up the PF chicky's...
Like the lady crying told my driver "I thought I done the right thing in the first place when I saw it was on 3/4 temp"... The lady also told him, she has always been told to leave the car stuff to the men, you dont know so dont touch...
So sucked in hey???
Worse thing though is (in a way) the husband gets off scott free...
FoMoCo is footing the bill...
Kinda strange, holden does all it can to NOT do warranty work even when its legit, but ford are willing to do a full engine rebuild because the owner ****ed up (partially because of another part of the car failing, but the overheating engine wouldnt have done anywhere near as much damage as she done herself)

My girl cousin many moons ago had a little 3 cylinder Suzuki something or other. She knew nothing about cars, apart from how to put petrol in it. She had it about 2-3 years and then it died. She hadn't had it serviced or checked water/oil or anything else in the entire time she'd owned it. I can't remember when it was water or oil or both that she ran out of to kill it.

Probally bent pushrods ect
Now that would be a damn hard task in a OHC engine, sounds like my old mechanic who told me I would end up with bent pushrods in my old EA if I didn't fix the tapping noise, he reckoned all of em do it sooner or later.

I dropped by a mechanic shop about a year ago and noticed them working on a Hyundai.
Owners father had tipped 4/5 litres of oil in it, as son had mentioned that car was smoky and the oil light had been on for ages.
Son then put 4 or 5 litres of oil in a day or two later as well.
Result was a motor chockers full of oil and a badly cracked head and extremely smokey exhaust, there was raw oil dripping out the pipe.
But here the best bit he had left instructions that basically said could they fix it so it only costs no more than $100 to repair.

My little nephew decieded to help out in the yard and topped up the fuel in the mower with the hose - no i didn't know, and yes it went to compression lock when i tried to start it, but at least he didn't decide to help with the old HK Monaro parked next to it. :(
I consider it my duty to make sure that my mothers car is always properly serviced and safe. I would not expect her to have to be responsible for servicing etc, but I do expect her to CHECK with me or a mechanic etc before she goes ballistic under the bonnet. As Clint Eastwood said "a good (wo)man knows his limitations". But then again in this disposable society young people don't seem to give a toss about maintaing their equipment. I was brought up the old way with simple the rule of; feed your animals first and maintain your tools/equipment and it has served me well thus far. :)

Most likely the 2 stroke 3 cyl and she never added the 2stroke oil. It was actually common to have that prob as they didnt use much 2 stroke oil and the car mixed it itself. You didnt actually fill up on 2stroke fuel.

Tried that. Her eyes glazed over and everything after "This is how you open the bonnet" went over her head. She doesn't know and nor does she want to. I reckon that every driver (regardless of gender) should have at least a basic understanding of car maintenance - it can save you a lot of trouble (and possibly $$) in the longer term.
Having said that, you can't teach somebody something that they don't want to learn.
