I was wondering what to best use for the R8 leather seats when my wife suggested I try my daughters leather saddle conditioner. I knew that she was happy with the results, so gave it a go on a test piece where it would'nt be noticed on the R8.
It turned out great, so did the whole car. Very pleased, and it smells great too.
In NZ we can get this from saddlery shops easily, it's English.
Makers name is Carr & Day & Martin, (by appointment to the Queen ahem) its called Belvoir Glycerine Spray Soap and it's in a 500ml spray bottle. Cost here is usually $NZ25.

I use RM Williams Saddle dressing. Same as what i use on the boots.

seems to work well here.

on mine i use Connolly leather cleaner and hide food, works a treat but you need to leave it overnight before buffing the leather gently for the best result (which is excellent), do that every time i polish the paint (6 months), and keep the leather clean regularly with Meguiars leather wipes whenever they need it :)

When your done with the cloth you used, throw it under the seat for a day or so to make sure you get the smell through the car.

Same here, the old RM dressing kept the boots looking good for the last 3 years and does the job on the Clubby leather. The only difference is- the RM boot leather is an infinately better quality leather than my seats!! :bash:

I bought some Eagle One leather conditioner ... their tyre shire works a treat so I thought I'd give it a go ...

Not sure if it helps with the longitivity of the leather but it makes it look darker for a few days ..

I read my car manual today and Holden suggests 'softly' for leather treatment.
Has anyone tried this????
Any good????

I went shopping for Ge-Wy and every bloody place I went to said 'old stuff' theres better now. Anyway, couldnt find anyone with the stuff in stock so bought Effem...German stuff also found at saddler's. Beeswax and lanolin essentially. Dries clear.

Slight darkening effect and softens nicely.

I use Ge-Wy great stuff,a trimmer in Sydney sells it for $15 for 220 grams it will do the car 2 - 3 times with that amount.

For years I've always used a leather dressing made by Joseph Lyddy who are part of the Waproo leather treatment group. It's called Jay-El and you'll find it under their horse care products (saddle and harness care). See www.josephlyddy.com.au/jayel.htm
I swear by it - it softens, preserves and restores. Using this, I've rejuvenated old leather upholstery that everyone said was beyond saving. It is is a bee's-wax based, non-colouring, so it will not replace worn colour, but really softens and preserves and also leaves a nice leathery smell. If the colour is worn, I have used a shoe colour restorer, and then the Jay-El afterwards, but be careful of the colour - it will come off on your clothes for weeks afterwards, so i always used an old towel over the seat for a few weeks after until it settles down. Best of course to start using the preservative before the problems start..

Have you ever tried to pull on a set of leathers that have been wet and dry a few times. (In a squeaky voice) "Not easy"...
Yeah, i think they'd have some idea how to soften them up.

Dubbin, just make sure you get the leather treatment
one, not the one that only waterproofs. $5.95 from
most shoe shops and works a treat.
