Went to a street meet today, and at the end of the racing there was the usual burnout comp - started out well , but went all bad for this poor B**tard.

Geez, hope not him in the flames....

On looking numerous times not hard to see what started that.

Fuel cap location tells the story, very close to tyres..

The source of the flames coming from there

Fark !!

Good pickup SSUTE03 - something all burnout comp promoters should keep in mind.

I do believe the driver is okay as the officials wouldn't be paying as much attention to the car otherwise.

From memory the wagons had a big round chrome fuel cap, (in pic 2) all I can see is a black (hole ?) where it
should be. That and the way the ashfalt seems to be burning, looks to me like missing fuel cap plus as spin
has resulted in a fuel spill on the track and ignited by the heat of the tyres.

I just can't understand how no one would have noticed a missing fuel cap, unless it was cracked and the flicking
around sent it flying first.

Reguardless, it is a dam shame for a fine looking car.

Dave ! (with a tear in my eye - who says I'm not sensitive)

Yes the driver was ok, he's the one wearing jeans in the last shot.
The fire crew went through at least 10 extinguishers to no avail and had to resort to getting the fire tender and using foam to dowse the flames.probably burned for 5-6 minutes, I was thinking the tank could explode at any time looking from the sideline.

Poor Bu**er threw his helmet across the track at the barrier out of frustration and to make matters worse had driven 2hrs from Rotorua to compete

ouch

it's not the first time I have seen this, however. A word for the wise, make sure your fuel filler and the pipe to the tank is protected before these kinds of activities. There is only a peice of rubber hose between them and in the case of that wagon, a 75 litre fuel tank.

VXEXEC350 has hit the nail on the head!
The filler pipe is immediately behind the RR wheel - if the tyre laminated it could have dislodged the fuel pipe.
