Just wondering, Will a 17" tyre and rim fit in the spare wheel bay of a sedan (or specifically a WH Stato)
I'm in the process of selling my 16" rims that came with the car but if i sell all 5 will be left without a spare. Getting another 17" to use would be easier but i have no idea if it will fit in the boot where the 16" currently resides.
Anyone got any ideas?

17" standard VX II SS rim fitted into the spare wheel bay of my old VX II SS (as it comes with 5), I believe the VY I had an 18"! (could be wrong on this bit) I'd say it should fit no probs. My VY II has a steel 15!!!

Then im in the market for 1 more 17" Rim as i just sold my 5 x 16" Caprice ones
Both my old 17 x 8 Senators and current 18 x 8 Grange wheels fit into the spare tyre well on my VT1 as does the 15" steelie spare. The overall diameter of the wheels assuming they have got the appropriate profile tyres fitted are all almost the same whether the rim is a 15", 16", 17", 18" or bigger - somewhere around 520 revs per kilometre.
The width, and therefore how high up the cover sits in the boot floor, may be quite different between a 6" wide rim and a 8" wide rim although this is somewhat compensated for by the tyre cross section.
The Monaro has a 4" wide space saver as the spare tyre. This is because the spare tyre well in the boot floor is much shallower but I think the overall wheel diameter of the spare is only a little bit less than the normal wheels.
I know my 18" VX R8 mags fit the space, although the design of the mag (raised centres) mean they don't allow the boot floor to sit flush.
I could put one of the stardard VX clubby mags I have in as a spare ,but I don't want to break the set up. So its the old 15" steely with a max of 80klm / hour.

VooDoo,
the stock International rims are 17" and fit fine.
It would also depend on the rolling diameter of the tyre (read as "profile").
I had a set of 19" rims and low profile tyres (45) the had the same diameter as the stock Calais 15" with stock profile tyres (65).
