Help.. car hire and the snow..

I need to hire an awd/4wd for a trip to the snow next week. I would like to hire a car from Sydney where they let you drive above the snowline (NSW snowfields). There are a couple of places in Canberra that allow it with some 'snow insurance' but it would be far better if I could hire from Sydney.

Anyone know?

Do you specifically need a 4wd/awd? if you need one to get offroad, they probably won't allow this sort of driving anyway??

You could take your car, or hire one from Sydney, and hire a set of chains in Cooma or here in Canberra...

i need an awd/4wd for a few reasons, one is not stuffing about with chains (car is too low for that anyway). Plus extra luggage etc.
