this might be silly question but why are the general automotive, forum bar and multimedia exchange excluded from the 'New Posts' search???

HRT433 - You are correct..... a lot of the regulars were getting worn out trawling through all the General threads whilst looking for the technical threads!
The General section has had a revamp, there is a forum called the Bar where I am guessing everything except the Biff will be allowed!!!!;) However the moderators will still be Nazi's when it comes to abusive posts!!;)

Would it be possible to have a quick link for new posts in the general section. Say by spliting the existing "today's posts" into "today's technical" and "today's general" links?
No drama, just asking.
Cheers
Gordie.

I could be barking up the wrong tree (woof woof  ), but my money is "management" wanting to keep the forum's focus on the technical side of things, hence the changes like technical posts counting for post counts only, technical sections showing up in the "new posts" search etc.
I can see both points of view, doesn't really affect me personally cause I prefer the technoical side of the forum...........
At least the more general sections are still there for those that use them.
If these things are not monitored forums can de-generate into "The Street Commodores Lounge"!
This forum has a lot (all?) of the fore-front speedshops and racers driving it, not a bad thing for us dullards who get all this free advice and R and D rub off!!!

Those are all really good points, and I can see the reasons behind why it was done, its just a bit os a hassle for those who want to check new posts in all sub-forums.
I agree with the point about trying to keep it a technical-based forum, and after-all it is upto the admins on how they set it up.
I have however found a way to get around this porblem, well sort of.
This is the link as it currently is:
http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=4,66,67
But, if you use this link with the exclude omitted, you will get new posts from all forums:
http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/search.php?do=getnew

You may want to add this one to your bookmarks also.
http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/search.php?do=getdaily
I have a preference for the technical posts, but still like to peruse the title of the general forums and investigate the once that look interesting. That new feature of the popup box showing line of the post is a real help in this reguard - especially for those threads with lame titles.
Just love this forum. Thanks for you efforts Sidey and moderators.

Can't you be nice and add them as a link Sidewindr? Maybe a new posts dropdown menu? :-)

Yeah, a dropdown box under new posts would be a much better idea. What is the point of calling it "New Posts" if it DOESN'T contain ALL the "New Posts"?? I do have it bookmarked however.

I'll join in the chorus for new posts to be just that...NEW POSTS... not new posts minus the ones we don't think are important.. :D

lol, poll on new posts in order. drop down choice is a good idea. click on new posts get a drop down box with
all new posts
new technical only
new posts recommended by someone else cause i'm extra lazy
last one is optional
poor sidey may have to rebuild those indexs again
ps how long does it take to glance down the list of new posts for things that may be of interest to someone. everyone has different intersts. all new posts is the biggest save of time for all. the menu way is slow, fast if you just want one section.
I concurr...it's a right royal pain in the butt :)
Yep, a very stupid decision.

Bugger now I have to go and mess with the java script :p
The reason for it is alot of people only visit once every couple of days and they end up with 7 pages of new posts.
I agree the dropdown is a good idea.. I will work on it :p
