How hard can you be on the Gen III (VY Series II). I am worried that I will break mine. I dont flog it all day but I do find myself getting a bit excited at times and end up giving it heaps.

Are there any do's and dont's with the GenIII

Thanks
Jason

give it time to warm up, keep an eye on the oil level, you should have no problems

Don'ts

When it is cold don't thrash it
when it is hot don't pussy foot around

Do's

When it is cold treat it gently
When it is hot thrash it

You have got one of the most un-bustable V8s around if you abide by the do's and don'ts above. ENJOY!!!! :D :D

As said below,

on cold take it easy!!!

When warm take her down to WSID and give it heaps :D

Take the wife and kids and tow the family boat up the coast, no worries.

All this and more and how much harder do you want to GO!

Refer to my sig mate. Just make sure the car and all fluids are warm beforehand. :) It's been 3 months since the rebuild and I've wrung it neck without busting anything.

While on this subject, what was the go with the GEN111 in the VX's? I know mine had an engine replacement at 90k and a lot of others with as low as 40k.

I have been told there was a problem with a third party piston manufacturer and the tolerences were too loose when assembled?

What did they do to overcome this problem with the VY?

Thanks,

DP.

There was nothing with the actual LS1s in the VX commdores at all, it was mainly build quality issues with the crate mtoors coming from GM. There were even rumours of GM dumping all the shitty motors into Australia.
