Guys,

I will be replacing Air filter etc this weekend, is it worth the expense of a K&N air filter? I know they can be cleaned and re-used, is there any slight performance gain? or is just a myth.

Thanks,

DP.

I don't think it's a myth. There would be a performance edge over the stocky, particularly after it starts getting dirty. You never need to change the filter after the initial purchase (unless you plan to replace your CAI) just need the cleaning kit and clean it every 50,000km. It's good value in the long run.

You don't have to restrict yourself to K&N (although I have it) ...there's BMC, Kingdragen etc... all very good.

i just purchased a K & N panel filter for my VT, and i dont know if its just the hype or wateva, but i must admit the VT now feels as if its more responsive. might be just me. i dont know.

Guys
I Changed my std Paper to a K&N while it was on a dyno.

First run was 202rwkw , re-run 5 mintues later with new filter 213rwkw.
If i had not seen it I would not have beleived it.

Whilst I dont know if there would be much difference with a new paper filter.

Cheers

.. unless you insist on clean air into your engine

There was a TSB (technical service bulletin) about a possible problem with MAF sensors being cluttered up with oil from the cleaning kit on K&N filters. Obviously this problem is N/A for those running MAFless.

SSbaby is right about the TSB. Excess oil applied after cleaning the filter is sucked onto the MAF sensors. But given the increadible life span of these filters before cleaning is required, I reckon forget a cleaning kit, piff the old filter and grab a new one every 50k.

I definately noticed the difference with the k & n filter. Ditch the paper filter, for what you pay for the new filter is is great bang for buck.
