Ok I know I should ask this in FF but I really dont like going there so here it go's....in here.;)

What do the BA XR8 owners get juel wise per km to a tank?A mate from work just bought a new BA XR8 and got abit of a shock when he found he was only getting around 360k's to a tank.
It only has about 1000k's on the clock so I'm guessing it will get better as the motor is run in more,or will it?

While I'm here, what go you LS1 guys get to a tank?

I get around 400km to a tank. averaging around 14-16l/100km

As for the Boss, i remember reading that the Boss ECU learns fuel consumption over the first 10-14,000 kms, and then it undergoes a self-remap that cuts fuel consumption drastically...

but obviously best to ask on FF... :P

When I first got my car I was struggling to get under 20L/100km with a 80% City/ 20% Highway mix. Purely highway driving got a best of 12-13L/100km.
Now that the car has a few more kms on the clock, it happily runs at around 12L/100km for the same 80/20 mix and around 9.6-9.8L in purely highway driving.

The search button is your friend Chris5ltr!! There are heaps of threads on LS1 fuel consumption on here!!!! :stick:

As I'm sure there is on FF. :p

The Ford uses more fuel cause it requires more Ford throttle to try to chase down the LS1's....... :D

Try 40.5L/100k, the dash don't lie, maybe the needle does

Definately try a search on FF, you won't have to ask because there was a thread just on this topic with economy figures quoted covering all sorts of driving styles and some providing their average speed numbers as well.

Tis a rude shock after driving an LS1 to change over to a rather thirsty Boss Engine. Mine after 18000k is just starting to get into a more back pocket friendly level of thirst. I am now on the highway getting close to 600k out of a tank ( something that has to be mentioned is the Ford only has a 65 ltr tank compared to the Commodore's 75 ltr).

After checking the trip computer I average 12.7l/100k. That is probably 40% driving around town. On the highway I am averaging 10.4. Still thirsty when the ute on the highway used to be below 9.

I get 300-350 in town but I think my right foot has something to do with it ... it was better when newer but it just seems to want to be flogged as it loosens up ..
Out on the open road I get in excess of 600

Kirium-I would have thought a LS1 would get better then 400k's per tank, very surprised.

HRT Stroker-Takes to long to sort through all the threads and I only added that question about the ls1's at the last minute, and I don't really like going on to FF.

Ghia351-like I said above

VU II SS-mmmmm....so really it's a run in issue (time for a user name change to isen't it?;))

XA coupe-Thats a big difference for around town to H'way driving.

Would be good to hear more from the VT GenIII powered owners, there cars should be well and truley run in.

The position of my right foot has an obvious influence on fuel consumption ;) Mine is also a ute with a 65L tank, not the sedan 75L tank...

They don't self remap, they have an adaptive strategy based on a base mapping in the ECU. This allows it to be more fuel efficient if possible due to the engine freeing up etc.

I did this comparison this week.
Friday 4am, HSV Clubsport VY II 285kw, Brisbane to Gold Coast & back, 10.4L/100km.

Saturday 4am, BA XR8 ute 260kw, Brisbane to Gold Coast & back, 17.9L/100km.

my Clubbie has 17,000 km's on it but i only picked up the ute last week so it had less than 1,000 km's on it. I'm going to do this comparison again in a couple of months when i get over 10,000 km's on the ute.

One benefit/negative of using the Ford US 5.4 truck block is its far greater "tightness" over an LS1 in their early days. Friends report taking upto 10,000 km before they felt it was nicely settled, especially compared to owners of previous Windsor V8's. Either way I don't think you'll match the VY, but should get it close. I'd like to hear your feedback on a comparison of the two engines once the XR has "aged" nicely.

My XR8 ute is 25000km old, it gets av 400-450km from a full tank, mixture of city and hwy driving, mostly pretty hard. Of course, harder driving and less gear changes would see it drop back into the 300's

I've got 720km from melbourne to canberra with 17 DTE showing on the trip meter, average 11.4lt/100km

BOSS 290 (GT-P), 55,000 km, about 500 +/- 50 km per tank.
I average 11-13 l/100km and have done so since about 12,000 km
N.B. the car is 1 year old, I tend to drive it a bit.

Holden's Technical Data (http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action/techdata?modelid=15002) for the Ute quotes 70 litres for petrol tank.

Only another 5 litres but hey, every last litre counts with an 8! :)

Damn.. I've never been able to shove in more than 55 litres of petrol into the ute. Wander where the other 15 litres are hiding. I get around 350+ kilometres out of the tank with around 17l/100km consumption figures, as reported by the trip computer.

Ok I have VY Series 2 SS with just about the 34k mark now...Yeah I know lots of Km's already..I have a heavy right foot and average around town..17.5-20L per 100 KM I have done a run to QLD from Melb and back and over 4789km average 11.2L per 100K I have also done a couple of runs from Melb to Adel and the best I have got so far is 8.7L Per 100Kms which was with a tail wind and not moving over the 110km/h mark with cruise on. Oh yeah and I only use BP Ultimate.

Same here.... even when the Dist to empty is reading 0kms, the most i've ever squeezed into a tank is around 57L...

So it does... The service (lets call him a secretary, cuz all he does is answer the phone and book cars in) secretary at Holden told me it was a 65L tank when I went in complaining about my dodgy fuel guage....

Dunno why I even listen to Holden service reps...

While on the subject, does anyone tow a tradesman type trailer with tools in back with an LS1 ute ? i would like to know how they go with a load, as i rekon my rodeo would use more eg: 20L/100klm

I just got back to Canberrra after driving to Brisbane last weekend, VTII SS, extracters, 3" exhast, air intake,anyway... I was getting between 8.5-9.1/100 sitting on 110-120k/h on cruise. I thought that was good, also my mate with VY SS ute gets low 8's/100 on cruse also with highway driving. I tend to get 13-15/100 around town.
