The reaffirm in everyone's mind that speeding fines have nothing to do with revenue, the first of the CPI based fine increases will occur this week in Victoria.

All fines and charges will rise by 2.25. Effective this Thursday:

UP to 10km/h over the limit: $128, a rise of $3.
From 10km/h to 25km/h: $205, up $5.
25km/h to 35km/h: $271, up $6.
35km/h to 45km/h: $389, up $9.
45km/h and above: $441, up $11.

The suspensions applied to drivers caught speeding at 25km/h or above remain unchanged.

Motorists caught driving unregistered cars will be fined $511, instead of $500.
The cost of a 10-year licence will also rise to $139

Definitely looks like a revenue thing doesn't it?
Lucky there is no Gst involved
If it wasn't for the points I wouldn't mind too much.
Looks like the best option is to be an unlicensed driver as go as quick as you want....all you get is a $500 od fine :bash:
I think any unlicensed driver should be put away for at least 3 months if caught-no exceptions!
These are the people that put our insurance premiums up and kill many on the road.
Sorry to get off topic but $500 .....come on :cussing:

Why are you glad, our fines for 45 and over are in the $1400-$1500 range.....
If I could be bothered I'd look up the other fines as well, and I doubt Vic are worse than us... Mind you, our fixed cameras are signposted by 3 signs, only mobile cameras are falcon wagon and sedans, and our leeway before booking is higher......

Damn that's revenue raising at it's best...or worst. Since my old state booted Kennet out, the only form of revenue growth in Victoria has been via traffic infringement fines.

...I'm glad I'm in Qld now.

By the way, driving up here the other week, I couldn't get over how much warning NSW drivers are given re upcoming fixed speed cameras! I thought it's a very nice gesture to give such warning....especially when I was travelling quite a bit over on a few long stretches of road.

It's called good economic management here in VIC... no fines, no revenue.

its probably because less people are speeding and they need to maintain their expected income
