I know this sort of thing has been done to death, but I am about to do my first oil change since i bought the R8. It has spent the last 55k kms on Mobil 1 synthetic. from what i have read it isn't a good idea to go from synthetic back to a mineral. I have looked all round locally to try and find 10w-30 Mobil 1 but no luck. I have found a local stockist of Motul and was just wondering if anyone has any first hand experiences with it and what there impressions have been. Some of my other considerations were from Redline, Royal purple and a local mob called Bimrose but except for the Bimrose nothing is available locally except the Motul. Any feedback would be good.

Cheers
Brad

cant comment on the 10w-40w motul but i just switched from mobil 1 to the 15w-50w motul in my vt v6 & i'm very happy with it.better oil pressure at hot idle & more consistent pressure at wot.also quieter engine & somehow it deepened my engine note.
cheers

I used to use the Motul 10W40 in my VT V6 and found it quite reasonable.

I'm curently using Mobil 1 0W40. Have you been to check what oil is available from Mobil servos? From memory, Mobile 1 10W30 is only available in bulk for dealers or something.

haven't tried Mobil servo yet ( doh ). really don't want to go to 0w-40 as i think the 0 is way to light for my climate up here. Noticed castrol do a 10w-60 in a full synthetic so may even go to that if i can't get 10w-30. My local dealership would of used Valvoline Durablend 10w-30 if i hadn't of asked for Mobil 1 10w-30 she said if i wanted sometging else i would ned to supply it which i am happy to do but just can't get hold of what i want.

You can get the Mobil 1 10w30 in 5 litre containers from service stations.

It is also available from Autobarn.

local autobarn only has 5w-50 in stock and have back ordered the 10w-30 4 times apparently it is hard to get hold of. I will be trying every local mobil servo this arvo but now am actually leaning towards not using the Mobil anyway.

I use the 10W40 Chrono from thier 300v series (300v is Motul's Motorsport range). Great oil, would use it again, but they only sell the 300V range in 2L bottles at ~$40 each so for a Commodore, you'd be looking ! $120 (6L)

I only used Motul in the 2 wheel machine, would not use anything else. Never had a problem with it. Never used oil, pulled it down at 50,000klm for a gearbox problem (jumping out of 2nd, nothing to do with oil just sh[t Suzuki gearboxes) but left the motor intact as it was perfect. Put it back together again and still made 124hp at the back wheel.

I can't really reccomend Motul enough.. Best brake fluid in the bussiness... Engine oils are good although we don't use the chrono series in the F3, we have found it better than mobil 1...

a great product
