Hi everyone!
Just about to take delivery of my new ride, VY11 Clubsport R8 in Phantom. Got a great deal on the runout model. Cant wait!!!!
My problem is I cant decide whether to stick with the stock 19in GTS rims in shadow chrome or go the non-shadow chrome version, which I must admit I prefer, especially since they stand out against the black duco. Now before anyone suggests I should go with my heart, the head tells me I'm automatically dating the car by putting on wheels with older style finish.
Your opinions please!!!!!

Hi JimboSS

Congratulations - a mate of mine just picked one up as well (pick up on THU) so there will be another 2 happy chaps around the land :-)

Personally, I like the non-shadow version, and have been considering a set for my Bermuda Blue SS.

Remember, you have to be happy, but whatever way you go, you'll end up with a top car.

cheers

The only drama I know of with the shadow chrome version is that if you damage one, it is very hard to find someone willing to repair them.

I was looking at getting some rims done in Shadow chrome last year and I was told that it was very hard to get the rims to match. I was told by the mag repair shop that the factory rims (HSV, etc) are made in large batches and the sets (of 4) are selected from rims with the most similar finishes.

The shadow ones look better but durability-wise, I'd go the standard finish.

Shadow chrome, looks great with the phantom mica.

I have them on my VY.

The trick to getting them repaired is don't sign the gutters with them, like my wife did :(

If it were silver then maybe go the new silver ones, but on black definately go the Shadow Chrome.

I have seen a set of VX GTS in Shadow Chrome come back from a repairer in Sydney u could not tell the difference, top job

I actually thought they were new and wanted to buy them, the bloke at the tyre shop said that they belonged to a customer and had been repaired.

I think from memory $240 a rim to repair and repaint ouch, better than being guttered.

take the tyres off the rims and acid dip them to strip off all the paint and then get the outers polished , then refit the tyres and then paint the insides of the rim satin black , we just did this to a red clubby and they look sensational :D

Any Pics????

There was a VL Calais Turbo Yellow in colour in SC Magazine that had polished rims on it and it looked choice.

Is it the same sort of look???

Have a set of shadow chrome furys, they are very easy to damage and expensive to fix, but they look awesome, the paint is difficult to match, Im told its a mixture of 3 colors.

Id choose a polished finish, easier to look after, repair and on the wallet.

Can I ask what shop was able to fix them?

Thanks

Hi,
If I was taking delivery of a new VYII CLUBSPORT R8 in Phantom Mica, I would definatly go for the Shadow Chrome Finish. Ive seen 19" Shadow Chrome ROH FURY'S on a VY SS UTE Phantom and it looks the sensational.
