Gday Folks
I am looking at selling my VP SS and upgrading to a VX Berlina Wagon. Not looking at getting a wagon by choice, however a ute is a little impracticle for what I want to do so a wagon is the next best thing.
I am looking at an VX LS1 Berlina Wagon. I was wondering if any forum users who actually own a VX Ls1 Berlina wagon could please let me know your thoughts about the car, are they sluggish being a wagon, how did you get on with respect to fuel consumption with highway travelling etc etc.
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers
Chris

Not that many VX berlina 5.7 wagons around, i have a VX berlina sedan 5.7...goes great, if you drive very slowly around town can be sluggish, the car wants a bit of a quick take off...ensure it has no oil / piston slap issues, if buying from a dealer call the previous owner and see if it had any problems...i reckon berlina wagons good value for money , has all the luxury options you could want...i have had mine for 3 years now...no regrets...i think that there is one available for sale on this site

There would be hardly any difference in the performance of a sedan and wagon. There is probably around 50Kg difference. They are slightly bigger beasts when it comes to parking. A V8 wagon will hold it's price well as it will be a little while before the 5.7 is old tooth.

Gday Haggy,
I have just done a very similar upgradge to what you have in mind. I traded my 93 VPII Berlina LX sedan which was basically a luxury SS i.e 5.0 Auto, ABS, IRS, FE2, Dual system, etc. To a 2002 VXII Berlina wagon 5.7(smooth and silent BTW) Auto with all the trimmings plus MAF pipe/exhaust 45000km/$30k It is like new!! the dealer also fitted new VT clubby wheels/tyres, dark tint and it looks horn!! I had to go the wagon because I needed the humungus amount of space these things have. i've got a third row seat from holden to go in when child 4 arrives in Oct. The leap in performance from the old 5.0 litre is amazing. It makes the old motor feel like a slug!
These cars are REALLY fast and I wouldn't be too worried about fuel consumption as it is no worse around town than the old 5.0 but about 2.0 litres per 100km better on the open road of which I have plenty around.
Go ahead and buy one if you can find the right one you should be very pleased and have a smile permanently stuck on your face when your givin it a bit!!
Kane..

Not as "wild" as you might think.
A few guys here who have driven mine could attest to it.
Easy daily driver.

I've had my VX II Berlina Wagon 5.7 A4 for 18 months and I love it. Really turns heads with big wheels and lowered because theres not many around. Goes just as well as sedans and fuel economy is better than any older 5.0 L i've ever owned, with alot more power to spare. Great for going camping and towing the boat, heaps of room.
Thumbs up from me :)

Very happy with mine, 112,000 kms no problems. Goes great, get 13.8 l per 100 kms, mainly city driving. Nearly everyone who rides in it comments how nice it rides etc. Has 18" wheels, cat back, tinted windows & body kit.

Thanks to everyone for your assistance on this topic. It looks pretty definite now that I will be getting a VX Berlina Wagon with the LS1!! Simply for ride quality, practicality etc I dont think I can go past it. It is now a matter of either selling my VP SS privately, or tracking down a decent example in a car yard and negotiating a trade with a decent change over figure.
On the towing situation, has anyone towed something similar to a fully enclosed, tandem axel trailer with there VX Berlina Wagon? I want to use mine for a little towing as well.
Hopefully the time isnt far away before I can join the LS1 fraternity! :D

On the subject of VX Berlina Wagons, can anyone tell me what the deal is with the rear seat. Do they completely fold down, or does only one side fold down etc?
Cheers
Haggy
The are split 60/40 if i remember correctly. So they can completely fold down if you fold both sides down.

Can't go past a good wagon....if tastfully modded they can be a real head turner!!!! i have had mine about 18 months also, just clicked over 90 tho.....i can speak for cammed fuel economy, bout 300 odd (could be better, have to clean up my tune)
There are quite a few around i have noticed of late, but alot with high k's, 150 plus....but they are holding their value, looking anywhere between 18,000 and 23,000 depending on k's

Hey all. If i dont sell it, It needs an exhaust. Any suggestions. So far considering 2.5inch redback, humex or supercat. Were a tad limited on exhaust selections here in Tassie!

Yeah, they are great. Do it. If you can, get a VX ser 2 for towing. The additional arms in the rear end will save you big $$$ in tyre wear, and with weight on the back, the wheels angles stay correct.
I have polyair bags in mine, and they are the greatest !! Put 20psi in them and the car is rock solid for towing. Also have some bilsteins which make it nice for the daily drives.
I assume the weakest link for towing would be the trans. Just take it easy and it should go forever. Mine has 220,000 kms on it now.. and still going strong....
As for exhaust, be careful with a wagon, you can end up with drone easier due to obvious reasons....

I just sold my VT2 wagon and regrett it greatly but needed to get rid of the loan. You wont regrett buying one - sure they are a bit bigger but its great to have a wagon with a bit of grunt and able to keep up with the big boys.
I will certainly be looking at getting either a VX, VY or VZ berlina wagon or similar in the near future when the house is done and I have my VK wagon done and on the road for weekends. :xmas: Edit: Gen3 of course - I could never see myself buying a 6!!
