Very low 20s, as a guesstimate...
Check Trading Post and Redbook for a guide on pricing

Yep, concur. Low 20's. It's got a lot of k's, well above average. Suspension work and nice wheels - whilst not stereotyping!!!! :D - would have me checking every single mechanical angle.

I'm 20 dead on,but as your trading chances are the ask is 23/24,so work on change over figure...the all-up figure with no add-on's ;) ...ecka made a most valid point...the car has just enough mods to send shivers up my spine..
Check It throughly..and I don't mean NRMA etc but some-one who knows one end of a late model Holden from the other ;) ..Personally those K's would not concern me in the least...it is a big lazy V8 after all.....just my take on it.

Hi mate,

There's plenty of good advice above. I especially endorse the comment, give the NRMA a miss, use a private workshop where the car can go on a hoist, maybe someone who will work on it if you buy. (Just re read, its evidently the RACV down there, I believe they stand behind the inspection, will cover anything they miss, at least according to an earlier post I read here)

I too would be concerned by the mods. And anybody in the trade will tell you, all other things equal, the less K's the better. In a nutshell, the things against are k's, no leather, the mods. Things for, good colour, possibly its a good dealer/warranty/backup, sound system, 2001 models well regarded, nicer shape to most eyes than later jigger. That's my take, anyway. Actually I think they are one of the nicest looking cars out there, and part of the perception when they are on the move is they just look so smooth.

ALways hard to compare, but I paid $27,500 couple of months ago for a 2000 model with 45 k's, V8 and leather. Frankly I think the V8 and leather are the way to go with this model, but as I say, there are any number of variations on the theme. I drove a couple and mine stood out, tighter than some higher k examples. I really dig it the most, especially out on the open road.

Problems? There is always the oil consumption issue lurking, I was a bit paranoid frankly. I have done 5 odd k's in mine so far and it has used under a litre of oil. I think one of the factors is it glides along on next to no revs. Its uncanny. The only other problems are part of the deal with the model, being a clunky gearbox and harshness over road joining strips (this latter a function of the lower profile tyres, and not helped by your car's wheels and tyres)

I guess to some extent what emerges from my point of view is its a luxo barge rather than an SS as you currently have, and to the extent that the mods take something from the luxo barge concept, they reduce the value of the car.

What's it worth? Again, its the changeover that is important. The dealer is in it for a living, so he's gonna get you one way or the other. THis is not a criticism, just reality, and part of the deal as to why the valuation for private and dealer cars differs. One thing to try to keep you on the right side of the deal is to not fall in love with the car, or at least not let on if you do. To the dealer, it is stock in trade, and he is objective. Gives him an advantage.

One can only talk general price ranges, its probably an early to mid 20's proposition privately up here, probably a dealer here would ask at least 25, maybe 25 to late 20's. Your trade is the x factor of course....

Good luck, let's know how you get on.

I am looking at buying a particular second hand SS in Sydney, and I am in Melbourne. I was gointg to get NRMA to check it over. Could someone in NSW recommend somewhere else to have it looked over instead?

i paid 25k for my wh a year ago, its a nov/99, gen 3 , silver, leather ,with just on 100k when i got it. it was/is in very good cond. ive done 20k in it since i got it and no real dramas except recently the damn BCM has got a problem that affects the warning lights on the dash.
as for the running gear its very good. engine uses **** all oil even under hard conditions(towing vk to drags). so im pretty happy.
i would say around 22-24 would be the price for it with them ks and cloth trim

There will be plenty of Statesman for sale in the future. If you are patient you will get a good deal. A car with those k's to me would be priced in the mid to low 20's. Allot of car for the money.
