This may not be on topic but what the hell is a srt4???????? Sounds like a ricer buzzbox and if thats the case the guy is lucky to be alive. Doing over 100???? I can only assume that this is 100mph, i didnt think that u walked away from anything over 100kmh much let alone 160kmh.

Depends on the style of crash..........drive into a tree/brick wall at that speed (in fact 80km/h will do it) and the decelleration forces exceed 100G and you're dead before you know you're even having an accident (normally your brain going "SPLAT" against the iside of your skull). Roll the vehicle at this speed and depending on exactly what happens (ie intrusions into the car, crushing of roof lines) you have a much better chance of survival as the G forces are at a lot less 30G to 50G. You'll still be a sick and sorry camper, but you may just still be alive.

At 160 i imagine the car would basically tear itself to pieces especially a smaller car. I know what u mean regarding what sort of crash, i would have thought that a lot of times even at 70kmh into a dead stop u would most likely die although i remember readin about a crash in the states that involved a head on with a combined terminal speed of over 140kmh and everyone lived.

Can only say that if ur gunna have a head on might as well be with a ferrari or lambo as against a semi, at least if u go over the top of it u might have a chance!!!!!!!

I have a story of my roll over at 160Km/h in 2000...

When i was 18, really young and really dumb, i was racing in a my sh!tty little honda prelude 81 model, 17" mag's, exhuast. I managed to get just it just over 160Km/h with a guy from work behind me in his Elantra, all of a suddon it felt like the hand brake was pulled right up and the car started pulling all over the road, i tried to correct it but just went straight off the road, hit ditch which put the car into the air, landed on the rear right and flipped another 3 and half times... two people i know witnessed the crash, both at the time thought that i was going to be in serious need of some help or unable to be helped, the guy i was racing was worried that he wouldnt be able to perform first aid well enough to save my arse... I was aware of exactly what was happening the during the roll over, i took my feet of the peddles and pushed them against the fire wall , pulled my head down, held my steering wheel at the bottom and pushed my self into the seat, the seat broke on impact but me and the seat belt held it in place... when the car stopped (30m down from the impact) i got up climed out from the back seat from the top of the car as it was on its side... i was shaking and in shock... everone was shaking... here were a couple of older ladies that pulled up along side the reck and asked me if the guy in the car was going to make it, i told them it was my car, they just couldnt believe that i walked away with no major injuries... I couldnt belive it...

When the cop's came, the younger officer must have been only new on the job, he was shaking so bad he could barely write his report down...

The senior officer noticed rust on the inside of my rear right hand wheel, around another 30m down the road, he then noticed the same rust on the car bolts that hold the rear wheels on, the right had rear wheel had buckled
and turned when i was at full speed.

I wish i had photos, the rear right boot was above the roof, one wheel managed to stay on the car but was at 90 degrees, the hole interior was smashed, the seats all stuffed, every panel bent out of shape, every window smashed...

I got a graze on my shoulder, that makes me one lucky motherf$%ker!

SRT-4 is the turbo'd Chrysler Neon (or is it s/chged?) in the US. Crude but V8-quick. Easy to mod for plenty of power - not so easy to make stop and handle.

Sounds exciting to say the least WorkedVY. What was the end result as far as cop intervention went?????

So far i have been extremely lucky with accidents (hugging a big tree in an effort to ward off murphys law), when i have been stupid in what might be considered border line roadworthy cars i have come out of it with car and self unscathed. Getting older and wiser now and even if its a traffic light battle doesnt get above 80kmh hardly if ever.

This from the drivers account of the accident....

"So there it is, in an instant, as a result of a bad decision and poor judgement, my life and the life of my family has been turned upsidedown."

That sums up everything about driving - better to not take the risk and live another day.

Drive safely.

Head on prangs with another vehicle are a different case again. That's what all the crumple zones are for (the ones that cost you shit tins to get your car fixed when you prang it at 20km/h), likewise airbags. It won't save the car, but it may reduce the G forces on your body enough to get out of the fatal zone. Each crash is unique, slight geometry differences can drastically change the G forces and rotation forces that your body experiences. Sometimes lucks with you, sometimes not. Remember the crash that killed Dale Earnhadt (Spelling??) in the NASCAR's, didn't look like much, but the combination of hitting the wall and getting clouted in the side at the same time put enough rotational force on his neck to break it. Luck was not on his side that day.

Its a 2.4ltr turbo 4 cylinder neon that's cheap (for the performance you get) and real ****in fast with only boltons and boost increase. Factory quotes 230hp, but most dyno results floating around show it has 230hp at the weels stock. Theres also a Mopar upgrade that keeps the factory warranty; you get more power and a bunch of other shit. Basically at US$21,000 (AU$30,000), its a ****ing bargain and i have no idea why we dont get them here. It'd be a huge image booster for chrysler australia
