Hi All -

I remember (somewhere) seeing some wonderful LS1 Engine covers somebody had put on their SS. They were matched to the body colour, and had identical "SS" logos on them.

Does anybody have any pictures of these (as I'm honked if I can find them again), and any info where they can be sourced from (I'm in WA)..

Many thanks,
Andrew.

try emtech or jhp

both these are listed in Street Commodores magazine.

Auto Attractions in Joondalup may have a set of these. I know they have " raw " 2 piece covers available which you paint in your own colour and simply apply the SS badges yourself. They look great.

Chipmaster had a set under his counter last time I was there, not sure if they were blanks or GTS or LS1.

You shouldnt have a problem finding these things Andrew, they are everywhere

These looks great!..

Is the standard cover simply moulded plastic? How is it removed?

Also - are these new custom covers metallic or plastic (I assume metallic). Are they actually genuine rocker covers (requiring gaskets etc etc) or are they clip on plastic jobbies?

I assume proper metal rockers would look the best.. What's the story?

Thanks guys -

Andrew.

Undo the four nuts holding your " turtle shell " on. Remove little spacers from under side of cover. Replace with 2 piece covers.

These are just plastic/fiberglass covers. No gaskets required.

Do they look OK or a bit wanky?..

At first glance (in photos) they look like genuine rocker covers. I'm a bit concerned that plastic ones would look a bit "ricey"..

Andrew

I reckon they look great. HSV uses the 2 piece covers on the GTS. Corvette uses them as a standard fitment. They look much better than the ugly heat restrictive turtle shell.

If you check out the VZ thread, there's a post on there from me. It shows a pic of a possible new engine cover that might be 2 piece, similar to export Pontiac GTO by the look of it... this may be cheaper than all the aftermarket stuff out there. i'd say that the (rediculous) prices of aftermarket covers may also drop with the introduction of a standard 2 piece cover...

Yeah, agree with you mate, they are a bit exxy for
a couple of bits of plastic aren't they. Hopefully
your right and they will drop in price because I
want a set badly.

VXSS...How do you keep your engine bay so clean?
I thought it was a big bad no no to put water near
these motors. I would love to go crazy on mine
with a can of degreaser and the hose but am not
game.

If you went to the Holden vs Ford show in perth and looked at a Hothouse ute, with the matching colour and SS stickers on it.

It was mine. :D

I got all my stuff from the eastern states, so can't help you out with the places in perth. Best to ring around or wait for the VZ covers.

Just ordered mine through Allstreet Tyres. [SVE distributor in Perth] He’s in the last Perth Street Car. About $300 for the matching colour ones.

Mate, that was a 5 minute clean, I just use Holden tyre bumper bar shine in a can from Holden, spray and wipe on the black stuff :D

On the covers Meguiars Quick Detailer.

I actually for the first time did the engine bay at car lovers, use the tyre engine setting, did the chasis rails and the other areas and rinsed it off with the low rinse setting, no probs at all.

The degreaser left some water marks on the billeted covers over the caps eg radiator, oil etc etc, quick light rub with autosol and good as new.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply John
I think I might have to take a chance and wash
the engine bay out. I will just do the same as I
have done with my other cars and put a placky
bag over sensitive stuff like the alternator. If I
keep the water to a fine spray everything should
be fine, touch wood.
BTW...Your engine looks fantastic mate.
Cheers

Thanks Rod

With the engine I did not spray the top or sides, just the front.

Also with the new manifold it does not show the dirt as much like the old one :D, and with it being alot smoother when u spray quick detailer or what ever u can wipe it no probs without leaving fluff from a cloth  :bash: which use to shit me big time.

Yes, I thought it was the top of the motor you had
to be extra careful around (isnt it the knock sensors
that can get damaged). I have only ever cleaned
this bay with a wet rag, but thats going to change.
