I hear HSV will be using the LS2. What is the difference between the LS1 and LS2? Will the LS2 have the same modification potential as the LS1?

Yes and maybe. The LS2 is a development of the LS1. It has some plusses like external engine sensors, can have the future displacement-on-demand which disables 4 cylinders for freeway and small-throttle cruising for fuel economy. It goes to nearly 11:1 compression which requires Premium Umleaded, unlike previously.

It is a standard motor which produces as much power as, and more torque than, the special hand-assembled LS6 motor which came in hi-po Z06 Corvettes, and more torque. The LS6 is a specially modified LS1 with a different block, intake and head castings.

The ECU tables are twice as large because the computer is more powerful and tracks more variables. Some software vendors are warning it may take up to a year to produce the equivalent edit devices for remapping used in dyno tuning and the like. It is 6.0 litres instead of 5.7. 7kg lighter, has a higher redline stock and bigger cam lift.

Mainly it is developed and uses lessons learnt from the LS1. LS1/6 heads interchange and many parts would be the same. Unopened it maybe doesn't have the same tuning potential as the LS1, but then it starts with a huge power advantage. The LS7 will be the 'tuned' version of the LS2 which will go into the next Corvette and is supposed to have 500hp to fight the Ford GT and Italian supercars.

I Was Speaking To The Hsv Rep In Qld, The Fell I Was Getting From Her Is That The Hsv Will Be Go To The 6.0ltr Ls1. She Said That The Hsv Will Not Be Running The 5.7ltr In Vz.

A birdie tells me that all V8 holdens will be LS2 in March next yr. Just in time for the series 2 Caprice and most/all the bugs to be ironed out. Plus we should see some good tuning results and any oil/slap issues if there are any.

so what is the cost of the new engine, it should be a easy swap in to vt/vx/vy?

You could probably cover half the cost of a rebuilt LS1 stroker for the same dough.

If I could get a good complete LS2 for $3,000 then I would jump at it, but seeing as I can't I'll stick to my rebuilt LS1 for $3,000.

If the LS2 is based on our LS1, I hope it doesnt have the piston slap/ oil consumption issues! But i guess being all alloy it is still gonna be a noisey engine, eh?!

Hopefully all the problems that the LS1 had is solved with the LS2. My VY 2 V8 Calais is very quiet running still no problems with it at all so far.

As I am a mechanic for Holden, I have just purchased a new VZ Clubsport R8 :) and have suped it up to 350 kw with an exhaust modifications. I then purchased another VZ Clubsport R8, both in red, one manual and one auto. I also have a new VZ SS Sedan, as a work car. :p Yes, HSV are using the LS2 297kw engine. The new VZ V6's (exec-acclaim e.t.c) are all buggers to work on, :booty: i can tell you that much :box: :bash: :(
