I am about to trade my VX SS in on a new VY 2 Clubby Special addition YEE HAH!!!!!! Any one done or know of some one who has done an maf edit on the 285 (need to leave the maf on for warranty) and what were the results?
Also I am selleng the go fast bits I put on the SS , Check them out in the classifieds if you are interested. Any on know of a good exhaust guy in Perth. I don't want to just put on an aftermarket bolt on, I would prefer to have one custom fitted, I did the same with my SS and the sond was unique and had loads of owners ask what type I had on. Any one know the diamiter of the standard Clubsport system? I also think I remember reading the write up on the 285kw R8 when they first came out that HSV had done a lot of work on the design of the headers making them almost not worth replacing. Am I remembering correctly?

Thats exactly correct, the factory exhaust is very good on these new hsv's,i know of a place that did a full custom system on a clubby and only made 1kw difference,so if u wanna spend a good 2500grand for that little gain ? basically u would just wanna change the cat back to get a bit of niose, geniee do a really good cat bak system which is stainless steel and is almost exactly same as the factory exhaust, from memory i think its 1100bucks
heres a pic of the exhaust if this helps,by the way this exhaust bolts straight on no welding so you could do it urself

Thanks Sonny,
I actually am going to look at doing the following as this is what I had done to the SS and it sounded great: 2 1/2 welded strait to the back of the cats (I assume that the crimp restrictor is still at the rear of the cats) an x pipe from D & T in adelaide, Berkly sports mufflers and (I am toying with this one as it was great on the SS but may sound a little too much for the Clubby) Strait through no rear resinator. I am not sure of this one yet because the back preasure sound when idleing back and changing gear on the ss sounded great do you know if a rear res. will eliminate the back presure and popping sound?
But I don't want to have any droneing (It was hardly there any way in the SS). Yeah I want my cake and to eat it too!
Do you know the diameter of the standard system as I would like to retain the standard outward appearance by using the original tips?

The standard exhaust is dual 2-1/4" on the HSV's

I am in exactly the same situation with a new VYII R8.

The exhaust will be modified if for no reason other than sound however I will be looking for power gains via exhaust and edit.

Would be interested to read the comments of the tuning and exhaust sponsors on the results with the HSV VYII.

I'm pretty sure the exhaust diameter on the seriesII Clubby's is 2-1/2" series1 was 2-1/4"

Original headers are very good, cats are already opened up full 2 1/2" from factory, I just changed from the cats back for note and also gained an extra 15rwkw and can't remember the torque figure, but that increased dramatically as well. If your gonna do one thing though, make sure it's an edit.....well two, exhaust. :D

So is it 2-1/2" or 2-1/4", WHLS1 I am keen to here of your results, and will let you know of mine. YIIR8 did you have a maf tune or maf less, I understand that some of HSV's gain has been through refining their tuning. Would there be good gain's with a MAF tune or has HSV exploited this pretty much already? Did you have a rear resonator on your new system....and if so does it have that back pressure burble sound? ANY ONE NO OF A GOOD EXHAUST GUY IN PERTH? Any one tried a CAPA 10% on a 285?

Why only a Maf tune? You can have a Mafless tune and still have the Maf on, just don't plug it in. :D

2 1/2" albeit with a couple of crimps near the mufflers, restrictive.
MAFless tune works for me :)
After fitting the catback (ESA), the rear reso lasted about a week I think, then took it off, had slight drone, so sound deadening matting in the boot sorted that out.....burbles quite well, not too overboard.
If ya wanna listen, CLICK HERE (http://www.nqhsvls1.com) then click members cars, then my car(silver R8), under that is a sound file.

V8IIxist, I have been told that beside's the signal sensor conflict, the MAF is acually a restrictor, so a MAF less with a MAF on would be............sort of defeating the purpode too a degree, right? YII8 Sounds F*&#+@! great. What have you got? (ESA?) What exactly did you use for the sound proof matting?

Brim.

ESA 2 1/2" catback.....and imho a MAFless is the way to go,(huge debate on this), but go get a tune, maf or mafless.
I'd have to ask nqcv8 as he supplied the sound proofing matting.

By thr way did you remove the crimp restrictor behind the cats?
If not Why not? Do they actually have some sort of beneficial use?

 Last I looked when it was up on the hoist, there was no restriction behind my cats mate, crimped or otherwise. :)

The crimping behind the cats is on the VYII SS, the HSV is different, I think he is confusing the two models. Even though Holden say they have fitted a HSV exhaust to the SS to gain power it is only from the intermediate pipe back, they have left 2 little 2" pipes from the cats plus they are crimped down as well, the full HSV system does not have this setup.

Does anyone have the sound file..The NQ HSV Club site is currently down and I wanted to hear how YIIR8 sounded before I go ahead and do mine (Just updated to VYIIClubby M6.)

Thanks.
