It's taken me almost a year but it's finally happened, I'm the newest member of the cam only club. :D

Recently, I had my car tuned at HPF ... what a difference a new cam and MAFless tune makes to a car - it has a completely different character - and now I realise I waited too long! Rob commented that it made good power for a cam-only engine, "266.5 rwkw should be good for mid 12s on street tyres".

I opted for a custom grind Higgins baby cam, 224/224 110 lsa. The driveability with the 110 lsa is nothing short of sensational - even better than stock, which surprised me as I thought there would be some sacrifice to driveability low in the rev range! The 110 lsa gives the car a serious note with a beautiful lope at idle (set at 1000 rpm).

I'm still running stock 3.45 gears but the combination of cam and tune has optimised torque to the point where 6th gear is now useable from as low as 85-90km/h. I have no intention of upgrading my diff gears (to 3.9s) as the engine flexibility is much improved. Besides, I do a lot of long distance driving and the taller diff suits my driving style. So far, there does not seem to be a huge penalty in fuel consumption over my previous stock tune.

If anybody is contemplating a cam upgrade, don't wait as long as I have! ;)

Thanks to Rob from HPF and Nathan Higgins for such an awesome package. My car rocks!!! :headbang:

Thanks for the response, guys. ;)

I guess I waited a long time because I did quite a bit of research before settling for the cam that suited my needs and also sought a reputable tuner who would look after its customer, without having to make the trek interstate. :)

I spoke at length to Nathan about the choice of cam and he suggested I settle on the 224 as my current (Pacemaker 1 5/8" tri-y) header/exhaust system would be a little restrictive if I had opted for a bigger cam (apparently, 1.75" 4-1 headers are ultimately the best choice for those chasing power). I wasn't too worried about ultimate power, just wanted good driveability and that's exactly what my car delivers - even my grandma could drive it to the shops, the engine's so tractible.

Please feel free to PM me if you want to know details of cost etc...

Yeah, you can ask like you usually do mate... but he might not want it public knowledge.
Just bite the bullet. One minute it's twin turbos, the next cam only?
Stop dreaming and start doing is my advice.

Oh and nice result btw. SSBaby... gotta be happy with that.

Just doing my research until I can be 100% sure on what I actually want, even if it takes eternity ;)

Tony, are u planning on hitting the track anytime soon to test out her potential on street tyres?

I opted for a custom grind Higgins baby cam, 224/224 110 lsa.

I just love how a 224 cam is considered baby these days - we've certainly come a long way :D

Congrats btw SSbaby, I'll be interested to see the times you run since I have a similar setup.

The cam I settled on is more conservative than that offered in the package by HPF.

Nice work Mr Baby Man!!

That'll be a nice daily drive....glad to see you went with a tighter LSA....makes all the difference when you go 'tickling' the 'loud pedal'.

You'll enjoy that !...give it heaps!
