Hello all, I am faced with a very difficuly dilema, my front styling on my vx SS 285rwkw sedan is the clubsport style made out of fibreglass and is starting to get crack lines, big chips in it... i thing is due to bad moulding from wheover put it on (i dont have the teardrop lights that the vx ss have)
Iv'e been to surfers ,parkwood HSV and been advised buy the hsv team that I need a build # and a chassis number before they can order it
my front end looks like this
Front bar (http://members.westnet.com.au/baldric/front.jpg)
so if anyone can help me by providng me their build #/ Chassis number i would be much appreciative as I would prefer the plastic one over the fibreglass one as it wont break anymore
Thanks,
VZSS250

That is your opinion, not mine and obviously not vzss350 either. its your thread and these differences have nothing to do with your question.

No help from here.... Maybe someone will front up with a build number to allow fake HSV's to continue to appear.

your best bet is to cruze the second hand car lots and get the number off a car in the lot

What do you mean by "the engine is a clubsport engine"?? Has the engine actually been swapped with one from a clubsport, including HSV CAI, exhaust system and PCM? Or has it just been tuned up a bit like every other LS1 around here! :D
Cheers,
Beej
Mock ups certainly don't do the owners of genuine HSV's any favours, I fully support HSV in their efforts to protect the owners who pay up to buy the real deal. I bet a few mock ups getting around in fact have plently of "real" HSV parts, albeit stolen.......

Hot Damn it took me heads/cam/exhaust&maffless tune to get that type of power, "I just want one too......."

so you mean you have a Chevrolet LS1 crate motor, the same as everyone else around here...oh, but let's not forget the funky "Mobil 1" sticker on the oil cap :D

Just woddle on down to your nearest Motor Auctions..plenty to choose from ;) big numbers and little numbers.you'll also find the local smash shops have the odd one or two of these hanging around awaiting a few repairs..which is not expensive on plastic.

I think someones having a lent of you mate. The "HSV" engine is no different to a SV8/SS/Stato engine. Its all in the tune.
if you really did have a 3" system you would be loosing lots of power. 3" is for Superchargers, Turbos etc not stock LS1's. There is no such thing as 3" headers anywere let alone your car. More likely Try-Y's with 1 5/8" primaries into a 3" collector (more likely 2.5"). Maybe thats what you were thinking of.
No stock engine has 285rwkw. Even cars with a nice cam/heads have been known to get less. 220rwkw is normal after an edit. 180rwkw pre-edit. 240rwkw is a "goodun" after a tune but rare. The "HSV Clubsport" tune is 285kw at the engine but in reality not that much better than any other LS1.
Before quoting figuires on a LS1 forum full of LS1 owners its a good idea to check your facts. Unfortunatly the info you have been told is incorrect. Please dont think we are having a go at you. Its not uncommon to be told things (even by dealers) that is totally wrong. If unsure just ask or use the search button. Plenty of guys here are happy to help answer even the hard questions.

poor guy makes a few typeos and gets hammered ;) prob from a wreck. the only motors hsv have are C4bs, maybe some ls2s now :D the rest are holden factory and hsv don't replace them if faulty holden does.
still the R8 engine is interesting, rip out the SS motor and put in an new r8 motor which is exactly the same.

HAHA...thats car's a VT commodore with a VX kit and VY wheels...Nice hybrid
Actually with amber side turn repeaters it would appear to be a VT series 1 at that.
Not much else that give a clue to the model but the headlights are certainly pre VX.

I can understand where hes coming from...I have the clubsport frontend...and no its not because I wanna be a HSV, it just looks a whole lot better in my own opinion...
When I recently looked at getting my fibreglass front re-moulded, due to cracks and bubbling, my panel beater reconmmended getting damaged original frontends...the ones which get damaged before shipping the cars. Respray and your done. Would pay to talk to a few of your local smash repair places to see if they have anything around.

Yeah I have talked to this guy before. I think he was mislead when he bought the car, cause he was told that the engine was rebuilt cause of piston slap I think and that they put the R8 engine in their. But I tried telling him that it would have bullshit sales tatics, but yeah. Simple thing is that all Gen3 are the same just different tunes. I could have a R8 or GTS tune, but it doesn't mean its a HSV engine. Told him to get a edit done it to begin with and that would give him more power than what he has at the moment. There are heaps of d#$kheads out there trying to sell cars saying it has HSV engines etc, when they have just had them tuned  . In regards to HSV front bar, there piss easy to get hold off (genuine), but I wouldn't put one on my VX SS cause every time I see a commodore with a HSV kit you think that its just a cheap Executive done up :) My girlfriend just bought the VX HSV R8 for $32,000 with only 85,000 kms still with new car warrenty so there not expensive anymore... She just paid out the rest of the lease on the car which its outright figure was 32k. So there are some good deals out there I think hehehehehehe

I bought one of these (from the same guy) - just picked it up from the couriers about an hour ago, actually.
I'm still trying to decide whether to fit it or not though (I'm having second thoughts)...

Yeah the problem with fibreglass is that it will not forgive you if you knock it. Because the kits are low, you will hit it or scrap when just getting up and down your driveway. Once you have one on your car you learn to drive really carefully and slowly on all speed bumps, arrr the good old days when I had a VT kit hehehehe.

okay thanks for the info i have learn from this so it must be 280kw @ fly ? i have a invoice sheet from hsv saying replaced motor (due to the previous owner whinging about oil consumption) they replaced it holden didnt have any in stock so hsv changed the engine out. and it has a exhaust, i actually measured the headers and they are 2.5" 4 pipes both sides whech then convert into 2 pipes (3" in circumfrence) run down both sides of the body then join into a 3" single to tailpipe.
PS: they changed the clutch as well to a ceramaic type as stated on the invoice sheet.
Also can somone shed me some light on what a "edit" does and where abouts i can get one done in SE queensland, and a approxamate cost cost if this ?
some wrecking yards for hsv front clubsport type plastic grills would be good too :)
Thanks
Sorry if i offended anyone...

Mate I wouldnt apologise - you are entitled to an opinion as is everyone --- I myself went the route of finding a wrecked HSV and getting the engine/gearbox out of it ... I didnt want an HSV so I didnt get one - money is not the issue it is personal choice, as HSV sell a lifestyle/image solution - HSV parts are plentiful to get your hands on from wreckers (www.allpanelsandparts.com.au) - they have front bars so have a look there ... I personally dont see anything wrong with putting the kits on cars, as long as you dont put the badges on and pretend that it is an HSV ...
good luck

So if its a series one then no LS1, expensive mod to undertake, complete wiring harness etc etc...
I dont mind the odd HSV Replica, but cannot stand when there is the HSV badges all over it, that to me is crappy as hell,
HSV owners pay a premium for there cars, hence why Build#'s etc are requested! (most places)...

and good luck to them if the valuers are too damn lazy to lift a bonnet in search of the HSV tag…...imho
