Hi guys,new to the forum.
Just bought Hsv vt clubsport II 2000 model of my brother inlaw original owner 22,000kms. After 2 weeks ive noticed a noise when depressing the clutch a little rattle.Took it to heatland .Extended harrier warranty expires in 1/10/06. In which they told me that warranty isnt transferable i have to pay for them to look at it.Very grumpy guy {nice customer service} :box: : The car had been serviced every 3,000kms same dealer.Car is immaculate
I'll never again go/buy my utes to heatland again .It is printed in the book last page "not transferable" in fine print. So ill have to live with it.
I think ill take it to sams from what i read on hear he"s the man to see.

Are you serious - IIRC, when I extended my warranty, there is a statement that I can transfer to new owner. It was one of the reasons I extended my warranty - if I decided to sell my car before the warranty expire, a new owner gonna get the warranty. It was for VT exec, so I'd assume it applies for all Holden's.
I think I threw away the booklet, but will check it out.

OT - I think extended warranty are just another way of making $$. When the time comes - they will find any excuses/ fine prints to avoid it. But still, I, like a lot of ppl are sucked into extended warranty :) - I've extended warranty for almost all the equipment I bought, tv, camear and most of all, another extended for my new car :p.

I rang Holden direct the other day about extending mine as it comes out of original warranty next month, and I was told the extended warranty is no longer a Holden warranty but a warranty offered by a third party or insurance group and to talk to my dealer to see what was on offer. No too keen seeing it is not really the Genuine Warranty that is extented so I doubt if I will bother as I think there would be lots of clauses and grey areas. Yet it comes up on the Holden site as Extended Warranty enquiries and that is the number I rang.

PAV, go ring the department of fair trading and ask them about this. Whilst Heartland has tried to get out of fixing it under warranty by the dodgy fine print, I'm sure that you could probably get around this somehow. It is not fair that anyone should pay an extra few thousand dollars to get extended warranty and then the next owner can't take advantage of that because of some fine print. They are accepting money on the basis of providing free repairs for that particular vehicle, and if that vehicle changes hands, they essentially get to keep the money without having to provide any sort of service. This doesn't seem legal or ethical.

I would definitely call up the Fair Trading guys and have a chat to them. They are very good at getting around fine print and getting the consumer what he/she deserves. In fact there have been many cases where even though the warranty on a particular product had run out, the consumer was still entitled to getting it fixed because of the perceived value of the product and how much they paid for it in the beginning.

Extended warranties aren't cheap, so I think you may have a case here. Alternatively, speak to your brother in law and get him to take it into Heartland. Just don't tell them that he sold it to you.

Good luck!

Sorry, but it's all legal. No use whining. Like any contract, business transaction, purchase, or insurance agreement etc etc etc, you should have read the 'fine print'.

But having said that, I reckon the situation sux. If there is no 'fine print' about getting a pro-rata refund on the unused portion of the 'warranty', pursue that ;)

Whilst it may be "all legal", there are ways to get around that as I have outlined above. Speak to the fair trading people and see if you can do anything about it. When fair trading gets involved, you will find that the Holden people are a lot more accomodating. Just give it a shot, you've got nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Isn't it strange how different dealers operate? When I bought my VY1 Berlina V8, I was told that I would receive a dealer supported extended warranty to 6 yrs / 175000 km. I was told this AFTER I had negotiated over 8k off the RRP, and was told specifically that the extended warranty WAS transferable. Of course, I have to get my car serviced there, but so far they've been great.
