Anyone know whether this is possible?
Better still has anyone done it?
I haven't tried it myself but the VZ system is supposed to make "blipping" for downshift (M6) much easier/lighter.

I believe that the VY V8 PCM does not have the necessary computing power to handle the VZ's drive-by-wire technology.

If it is anything like GT3 porsche you wont be able to do line lockers to heat tyres or do burnouts. GT3 jump off the clutch and onto the brake whilst accelerating and the engine shuts down.

As far as I am aware the VY series 1 and possible earlier pcm's have had the ability to do drive by wire for a while, not to mention the other wonderful thing as boost control etc etc.

Best bet is to have the Tuner's comment on what the stock pcm can do, you can bet your bottom dollar it's alot more than what we get! but do we really need those features on.

Drive by wire is going to be the biggest c#nt of a thing. I cant imagine why anyone would want it. It spells the end of driver control...now the car can decide if it wants to be caned!

Guess who won't be 'caning' their car.... :stick:

Drive by wire could be really good if manufacturers wanted it to be. Just because you add ETC doesn't mean it has to be the lifeless, anti-fun system they choose to impliment.

You could have a crazy system, that any mid range movement translates into WOT..

I belive the LS1 could have ETC added, you would need a new accelerator peddle, a throttle sensor, etc, and programming to make it all happen.

But you would need to go to someone who really knows the programming as it wouldn't be something most people would do as a upgrade.

Then im not sure about traction control and cruise control, they could now be implimented in ECU and through the ETC as could speed and rev limiter.

Yeah, my Vectra had the electric throttle and did this same thing. Its not because it has an electric throttle, its because Europe has tighter emmissions laws, and easing down the revs decreases emmissions (according to the vectra brochure) - they must be pretty tight of they need to restrict that!

I would prefer to do to the car what I want, not what it wants!! And in a ute there is no T/C either!!!!

we have had a few demos at work and the word is that they are much more responsive than the vy's, plus the now factory 3.7 diff ratio does help a little bit :D,
they aslo have stability controll and traction controll switchable.
there are many other neat lil gadgets on the vz even tho both cars look pretty similar.
cheers steve
