Hi ppl,

the otherday i was looking at a stunning WK caprice and found it to be equiped with Roadangel. Does anyone use this fixed camera detection system and does it work 100% of the time? I want to know before I pay $900 for it.

And also guys,

How do you get power to the unit...is it battery operated or do you need to us the car's power?

I love the unit.
It runs off the cigarette adapter and what I've done is drilled a small hole in the SV8 top binnacle plastic bit and ran the wires down to the mobile phone/accessory wires already in the car (passenger side on the right)
When you purchase one you get 12 months membership and if you are referred by a member you get extra 6 months.
The unit has uploaded information and you can download regularly for updates.
You can even program your own spots quickly for future reference.
When I first bought it it went off every minute as it goes off in black spots and school zones.I have turned the volume on these down and only beeps once but the visuals are still there (lights up red)
I have noticed that 80% of the red lights and fixed speeding cameras seem to be only for one way traffic contrary to the signs you see upon approach.
It is very easy to get distracted and not notice the signs for these cameras and well worth the money I think.
I have noticed they put up signs near trees and bushes which you don't notice.
I have also noticed there are average speed cameras that can take a picture of your plates at a particular spot then another one and average your speed. If the limit is 100 and you are doing 110-120 most of the way you will get a nice letter in the mail :bash:
Some roads have a red light camera at the intersection , then 15-20 meters down the road a speed camera....  double whammy!

i thought that radar dectors or any such devie was now deemded as illegal in in the east coast ??Its not a radar detector. It stores information in the unit and works off satellites just like a gprs with your position and will notify you when a fixed red light or fixed speeding camera is approaching. It wont notify you if there is a mobile unit on the road or police car.The public is given the information for these spots freely so its not illegal at all.
It even displays your speed and is very accurate.

Actually they would be illegal in qld as the law states "any device that can interfere with the usage of speed measuring equipment".
Showing where they are would be viewed like flasshing headlights at cars coming the other way.

Doesn't matter anyway as we have no fixed camera (yet).
We nearly did but bracks' fcukup cause king pete toy go a bit shy

it doesnt interfere though its just really a gps unit

www.roadangel.com.au

from the faq

Angel is GPS-based and should not be confused with a "detector". It is legal in every State of Australia and New Zealand. GPS technologies are totally legal and Road Angel uses these to guard your life, licence and livelihood. It does not detect speed cameras or similar speed enforcement devices or interfere with the operation of them in any manner.

No it is only legal here because we do not have fixed cameras.
Penalty for warning another motorist about radar, $lots fine and 3 points I think.
Penalty for putting up sign on post on road saying "Slow RADAR", $1100 + court costs, was in paper a while ago.

There is no penalty to turn on lights and then change your mind a second or two later :D as long as its not high beam

I have a road angel and find it quite good, the first day I used it I was dissapointed because it went off at EVERY "Blackspot" (School zone, 40kph, hotspot etc). I now delete them as I go and only rely on it for fixed speed and Red light cameras. It is really good. I do a lot of k's around Sydney and although the cameras are signposted you only have a slight lapse in concentration and miss a sign and your done. The Road Angel is also an accurate speedo (with a 1 second delay), but I had the digital speedo turned on in the trip computer function and I find that excellent for quick glance accuracy when I go past cameras etc.

Molong Rd ?? I did see that somewhere, maybe thats where I was...

But as u say, if you live in Forbes and dont go anywhere, no use to you.

If you travel, or live in or near a capital...definately worth the money

I run a Whislter unit which picks up fixed and mobile radars. it is only illegal if you get caught. it doesn't pick up laser but it has cost me to purchase and upgrades approx $1100 in 13 years, savings $$$$$$$$ over the period. i get it upgraded every 2 years as the cops don't play fair. Contact creative electronics in Sydney as the have a roadangel ( most likely under a different name) radar and laser units.

Works fine.I've had this for 9 months now in this position.
As long as it can pick up the satellites it is fine.
You can even buy an external Arial and hide the unit somewhere.
I love it and cant be without it now.Too many cameras in Sydney now.
