The others are standard VZ 5.7l V8 anything

So they are HSV ay! Got the right ones. (He Smells Victory!)
(Actually I did give the spare parts bloke the HSV codes but I assumed everyone else would have as well, but mine were different to the pics posted)

Anyways, cheers Fixel for clearing that up.

Picked up the HSV style on Saturday.
Ordered them last week over the phone.
No drama's yet but haven't installed them. But I did check to make sure I had both sides ;) .

Do the screws holding the turtle shell down fit these?

Apparently the left and right mix up has been fixed.

So order away fellas, however, there does seem to be a price rise.

Average price is $27.50 each.

Three more "no stock" and another dealer at $65.80.

Hi All,

Not sure if people are still keen on purchasing either the HSV or SS VZ engine covers but I bought a set today from Heartland Holden at Castle Hill. I rang about 12.30pm and were in by 3.30pm! Not bad service. I rang a few different Holden dealerships re price and well they have certainly sky rocketed since the early posts. I paid $68 each, other dealers wanted about $72 each so either I had the bad luck of ringing the wrong dealers OR these are so popular they have increased the price ten fold..... I had a few dramas getting the right (battery side) one on due to the cruise cable but after walking away taking a few deep breaths and trying again it seemed to click in fine. Haven't taken it for a spin to see if it interferes with cruise yet but should hopefully be ok.

Cheers

Can I ask, has anyone tried to surgically re-work their original LS1 turtle shell?

I mean has anyone tried to say carefully cut out holes, no bigger than say a tennis ball or maybe even golf ball in the cover so the heat can come out a bit?

What do people think of cutting out 2-3 holes right in the middle, above the holden logo, all measured and spaced out equally. Would it look ugly or is this just plain ridiculous? Is it not enough of an opening for hot air to come out?

I had a think about doing this myself. In the end I decided the following:

1. I don't think it would look very good
2. It would be too much stuffing around to try and make it look good.
3. It might let the heat escape, but that is the only thing you would achieve
4. It may not be legal because the VZ and aftermarket ones roll in at the middle (if you know what I mean), but I am not sure you could achieve this with a modded turtle shell.

I ended up buying an aftermarket pair off ebay with "Monaro" embossed into them for $100.00..... :driving: sweet (plus postage). The guy has another set on there at the moment if anyone's interested for the same price (do a search on "Engine Covers" as he does not have Monaro in the title)

Oh yeah, did I mention that I think moding the turtle shell wouldn't look good (that is just my opinion)

I recall seeing one done with the centre area cut away and a mesh grill inserted in the area - didn't look too bad.

Yes! Thats exactly what I wouldnt mind doing. Cutting out possibly in a rectangle shape, in the middle, above the holden logo, and putting a mesh grill.

To be honest im not sure what you mean? I prefer the look of the turtle shell, it keeps it clean and with a silver car, the shell looks good. I remember as soon as I bought the car, I was told stories of people pulling off the cover immediately. I dont mind the VZ covers but I dont like how they dont cover some of the parts and I although ive only seen 2 or 3 aftermarket ones, im not keen on them either.

Hope this helps.

G'day dear people,

This is my very first post so be gentle with me....

I'm chasing some aftermarket 2 piece engine covers for my VY SS wagon. I've seen a few online shops selling them for approx $300-$400 a set, but none as low as some of the prices you guys are quoting. Fibreglass or coloured plastic is fine by me, and the style that covers the power steering is my preference.

Can anyone steer me in the direction of a decent supplier ??

Hey guys,

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I thought I'd revive this instead of making a new one as I know everyone's answer will be "do a search". lol.

I just bought a pair of LS1 engine covers from eBay and I've had my mate paint them for me. I went to bolt them on but I've noticed that it's not a direct fit. Now going from the pictures in this thread, I'm just missing the brackets and studs that were only on LS1 engines with turtle shell covers?

Because I already have VZ LS1 split covers I don't have the bracket and studs. Is this all I'm going to need?

I know the answer is probably already in this thread, it's just that I don't have the time to read through 20 pages.

Thanks in advanced for your help. Cheers!

If they are the aftermarket covers rather than the clip on one, yes you
will need the brackets/spacers and nuts. I have the brackets in the shed and
pretty sure I have the rest of it in my toolbox, PM me your name and
address and I will mail them to you, I do not need them anymore :)

Ok, I got my brackets today and I still havn't been able to get the covers to fit.

Is there only one type of bracket? As the covers don't seem to clear the motor on the side of the throttle body. These are the LS1 engine covers from eBay. (Import world). They do say that they fit VZ models but it doesn't look like its a good fit.

Any help would be greatly appricated, I can take photo's of both engine covers and brackets if need be.

I remember seeing a set of 6L covers that didnt have 6 Litre written on them, but they looked nice and tough under the bonnet and looked ultra modern (look up the covers that you can get for LS2's in the states...)

So Camo, that is why you would bother...

Holden have had 3 parts price rises since Nov 08.
Also Nylex who made a lot of plastic products for Holden went bust.
New suppliers to Holden may well have higher prices.
