Hi All
Just wondering how many people are going to China next year to watch the V8s. I know HRT have a package for $5000 and Team Dynamik have one for $2900, I am considering which one to go for, or if there are any other package tours going around I may be interested in them ...
Maybe we could get an LS1 forum tour organised if there were enough interested parties. :)
cheers

Does that include airfares? $2900 is not too bad if it is!
I think it's great to see V8 Supercars going international. If they give it the right spin in China it could really take off. Their new raceway over there looks f*ing amazing! :)

I believe airfares are included in the costs - I also think that the Chinese are paying all freight costs so perhaps the teams are subsidising part of the tour ... I am still waiting for more info to come from the respective teams ...

It would pay to work out how much the actual components of the trip are, ie tickets to the race, flights, accomodation, etc.
I am about to go to Singapore and Thailand with the missus, and found that by shopping around I was able to get the price down to nearly half of what the travel agent's "best deal" was. Get onto some international websites and do some serious research on things like accomodation - the prices we are given are up to 3 times what the hotel actually charges! Also, when food is included it's not always a good deal. I remember staying in a hotel in Singapore once where brekky was included, but the room cost was 20 bucks a night more. Down the street was a local food court where I had cooked brekky and drink for less than 2 dollars!
I had a quick look on the web, and Malaysian airlines will do Sydney / Beijing return for $993 plus tax (about an extra $125). I can't imagine a local hotel there costing much more than $50 Aussie per night per room (ie not per person) for a 3 star. That takes the guesstimated total for a week to less than $1500 plus food plus race ticket (or less than $2500 for two).
The thing to do would be to run a gentleman's competition to see who can get the best deal, then share it around so everyone can go for cheap!

I might have to arrange "an important work trip" around that time and while I'm there I may as well catch the race.
Thanks boss. :nyuk:

According to flight centre discounts apply to a group of 10 or more ... they have airfares ranging from 799 + taxes to 1299 + taxes return, and as VYBerlinaV8 pointed out, accomodation should be reasonable ...

I think you will be surprised. The hotels in china, beijing in particular, can be extremely expensive. They have awesome hotels with some of the best service in the world. I think you would struggle to find decent accomodation for $50 aussie a night... but that's just what I think. I reckon you'd be looking at more like $100 a night at least. Depends what you call decent accomodation i suppose. Feel free to prove me wrong tho. Either way, I'd love to go some time. When the sport really takes off it'd be definitely worth considering a trip.

You do NOT want a 3 star hotel in China. I went over for the Intel Premier Partners conferance a few yrs back. 5 star all the way but a few others went on the cheap and were very unhappy with what they classed 3 star.
DVD Movies for $1.50 each was good though :)
sounds interesting, what city is it in?

As far as the number of stars for hotels goes, it really depends on what you're after. The trick is to try to find hotels that aren't considered 'international', and only charge local rates. When I'm on holidays I generally just go to the hotel room to sleep, but others like to use it as a place to relax and chill. The best way to find out what would suit you is to talk to people who have been. Some cheap hotels are horrid, some are great.
