My parents have just bought one of the runout VY series II equipe sedans. Trying to remove the front seat headrests.
Have pulled them up and pressed the adjusting button in and tried to pull them off, but will not come off.
How do you take them off?

Why do you want to take them off? I think all you gotta do is press the button and pull up? I don't see why that wouldn't work... I think that does the trick on the VT seats. Maybe VY seats have a different headrest mechanism...

maybe with the "active headrests", they cannot be removed?

In the side of the adjustment support there is a hole. You can push a pin or fine rod in there and release the headrest. But why remove? Certainly not for driving one hopes.....
p.s Active head restraints not available on equipe

I think you'll find that it is ILLEGAL to remove the headrests on your car. Something about ADRs, crash safety and whiplash, etc, etc.

whoops forgot to say that we are trying to take off the poxy set of seat covers that the dealer fitted and replacing them with a set of sheepskin ones.
Will try the pinhole suggestion.

I encounter this same problem on a weekly basis ;) rather than muck around
with the unwanted covers simply attack with one sharp razor blade....*carefully*

If the headrests are just the standard ones, use a straightened paper clip in the little pinhole on the 2nd headrest mount (the non-buttoned one). If they are active headrests, apparently you have to remove the back of the seat (advised by holden technician). Be carefull not to break the retaining clips at the base of the backing.
