I noticed in another thread someone said that they seen LHD Monaro's cruising round Syndey or Melbourne. I thought it was illegal to drive a LHD car in OZ unless it was more than 15 years old. If not i was wondering if a conversion is necessary for an imported C5 Corvette, reason being that it costs around $35k to convert to RHD. Any info on this subject would be great.

You can get 89' Corvettes in Japan for around 15k delivered. (same companies that import the ricers) There is a guy in gympie that does the conversions. Im pretty sure you still need it converted. In WA you dont for some reason.

The LHD Monaro's posted previously were engineering test vehicles for export driven by Holden employees.

In WA, vehicles older than 15 years (89 models at present) dont need to be converted, dont even have to display 'LHD' stickers on the rear either now.
Apart from older stuff, there is now heaps of 80's US stuff getting around here still in LHD, such as Vette's, pickups, vans and motor homes.

So basically the conversion is a must if I live in QLD. Would love a 02 or 03 C5 but i think by the time it got over here and i payed LCT, GST, Import fee's and Converted to RHD, i think it might be a little pricey.

So if I moved to Sydney I could bring my Grand National and not have to mess with the drive configuration? That would be awesome. :D

As far as I know NSW car must be 30 years or older to retain LHD.

Unless the GN is 25 or 30 years old, then i think you'd have to convert it to RHD in Sydney, most states require that.....WA is 15 years though.

I think you will find, WA 15 years, VIC 25 years, rest of the country 30 years.
