Moron+booze = broken side mirror.

Last night, some drunken* moron decided to break the glass in my drivers side mirror. I guess I can be thankful that the idiot did'nt extend the trashing to the rest of the car (a VX Calais).

The mirror (electric) works fine, except for it's somewhat eccentric reflection. Am I up for the whole box and dice or is there some way to just replace the mirror insert.

You might be able to get one from Holden... or try a glass/mirror mob. I made a paper pattern for a car (suzuki) years ago and got a new piece made up. Stuck it on myself with double-sided tape. Cost me $30 I think...

(You are better off than some peoples near my place last week - they had thier turrets 'danced' on last Sat nite..)

Yep, did the same for a VR Commodore a few years back. Double sided tape or sikaflex ( really sticky ) will fix it on fine. Save yourself the $$$.

Similiar thing happened to me years ago with my VN SS, went to holden and the replacement Genuine Holden glass came with the adhesive on the back and it just stuck straight on, 30 second job, never know the difference, I assume the newer cars would be the same.

Bought a new mirror from Holden ($25) and had the whole fixed in 5 minutes. Too easy.
One thing to watch out for is the way Holden have joined the two bits of the mirror housing together (melted studs). These are pretty brittle and could break with little provocation. I guess the knob who broke the mirror broke most of mine , i just finished them off :rolleyes: . Forget superglue, go for the 5 minute araldite. Just like a bought one now. :D
