I've noticed over the last few days that my car appears to set off the odd car alarm when i rumble by. It might just be a coincidence, but I did just get a new exhaust last week. :D

Mine does exactly the same thing in the car park here at work. Sometimes i just 'boot it' to here the echo of the exhaust - forgetting the alarm issue.
Must say but nearly every car in the car park has an alarm and it is only 1 or 2 that go off. They must be a bit more 'sensitive' than the others.
Also notice my exhaust sets off the neighbours lights at night when i swing in to my driveway. Again nothing deliberate to set them off.....they are just sensitive.
Then again my wife says she can hear me from 5 blocks away at home !!! Myabe i am insensitive to the noise these days ?
Yeh loud Exhausts or loud stereos generally set off a lot of alarms in car parks and other places too...know this from experience
I love the sound of a V8, and some V6's with a decent exhaust. I haven't ever come across a 4cyl with a loud exhaust (unless of course I include some motorbikes....) that sound good - they just make me laugh *at* them!

Eh, sorry sonny but did you say exhaust is a bit loud, hang on I will just turn off the Harley.
I love it when I set off car alarms on the cars parked in the middle of the road in Melbourne when I go past.
Sorry officer, it will never happen again.

Same thing happen to me today. I was in the Phoenix holden car park , and as soon as the car started, the alarm in the SS next to me went off .
Got a few sus looks as I rumbled out of the car park, they must have thought I tapped the SS as I was backing out.

I know the answer to this one... I am the Head Engineer for Rhino for the last 5 years... I designed, wrote, and tested the 'shock' code in our auzzie made alarms (not the cheaper imports, if you have one of them, some are adjustable, but all i will say is you get what you payfor)... If you have the Rhino product i.e. RA, RES, RAM, GT, LS etc You simply have the shock turned up to high... Refer to your instruction manual on how to turn it down... otherwise call one of my Techo's on (02) 4577 4708 and they can work out what alarm you have, as long as it is a rhino product and tell you how to do it... ask for WES...
The shock code in our auzzie alarms has ETS, which is Environmentally tunned sensing... which basically means i run a an algorithm that tracks noise and filters out environment noise such as music, exhausts, night clubs, garbage trucks etc...

Gees, my exhaust system doesn't set off any alarms. Better get myself a better system. ;)

Hmmm sounds familiar to me when I had my cammed up 5.0l VS BT1 pack. Had a 115db loud exhaust on it with a 3 inch tail pipe and gee did it have a nice deep rumble which set everything off. lol
Got two warnings from EPA for noise pollution too.
The black clubbie does it a bit sometimes with a little throttle but if I want to be a little more conservative, the clubbie lets me

My old HK Monaro 327 had twin 2 ½ side pipes that came out just in front of the back wheels. The thing sounded like a big block.
It used to set off car alarms, rattle windows, and scare small children and old people.
That was in another life when I had a real Holden. HK Bathurst edition. For those who know old Monaro’s the compliance plate was an 81837. Sold it ten years ago for 8 grand, man I wish I still had the old girl. :bawl:
