I have had a S2 Licence for the last couple of years and it allows you to do Club sprint days like HSV days.........very easy licence to obtain fill in the appplication and answer all the medical questions pay the fee and the licence is yours.

Visit the cams web site.

Ah ok, so there is no actual driving test involved?

No

All you need is a fire extinguisher, secondary bonnet strap, blue triangle indicating where battery is and helmet.

If you want to race then you will need an observed driving test, if you just want to do speed events (hill climbs, supersprints, etc..) then you just need to fill in the form and send your money.

I'll be at Oran Park tomorrow doing mine....hoping to run a bullet cam on the car (weather permitting)

you also need to belong to a CAMS affiliated club before you can apply.

Apart from that fill in the forms, hand over the cash, and have a cold beer waiting for the licence to arrive in the post.

C3 licence requires the driving test and a full medical and about 4 times the amount of cash to obtain.

It depends on the level of the licence that you require.
It's been a while, but I would expect that you still have to belong to a CAMS affiliated club and have the Secretary endorse the application. Then, depending on the level of licence, have a medical examination by a CAMS approved doctor which is sent in with the appropriate application and fee (again depending on level) along with a passport style photo. If you are serious about going racing, you need to have the appropriate gear - underwear, suit, socks, balaclava, boots, gloves, helmet, and also your car will also need to comply with the minimum requirements of - fire-extinguisher, wired drain-plugs, tail-shaft strap, oil catch-tank, and ...depending on level again, maybe roll-cage. Then....you are sort of ready to go for "observed practise". You are observed by CAMS officials at 3 different meetings and then you get your "P"s and then after being observed to behave yourself and be reasonably competent by CAMS officials at 3 different tracks...you finally get your full licence. Then ...the money starts to roll...And you can with experience and more fees slowly build up to an International standard licence which I think was C5. The next thing is a Super licence which lets you drive F1 and Le Mans.
As I say, that is how I remember it ...but it's been a long time, so please, no flames :hide:

pretty much spot on Seldo.. An International licence also costs huge $$$$....

Work out what you want to do and then go from there,. Jion a cams affiliated club that does that kind of activity and then the members will send you in the right direction.

Still buzzen from sunday mate, cant get enough? Yeah had great fun, Check out the ######## Social Club area, im going to organise a REAL skid pan thats IN THE WET!!!!

What club you going to join?

Was thinking the HSV Car Club, for reasons inc, but not limited to the CAMS Affiliation. Now that i have a car that is capable of handling the odd track day or 10. However this doesn't really help you having a SV8 (Obviously you need a HSV to join the HSV Car Club) :( Id rather be with people i know, esp to start with.

As for clubs, check out this list (http://www.cams.com.au/content.asp?PageID=Clubs), i said All Clubs in NSW, returns a lot of clubs.

Let me know what you decide to do anyway

I believe that the North Shore Sporting Car Club is still active, and that is where I got my start. Also of course the ARDC

For those guys who don't have HSV's, the southern sporting car club run at the same events as the HSV/HDT club of NSW, if you boys want to go out and play together. They have a website, im sure if you google southern sporting car club it will turn up a homepage. Usually have about 6-8 meetings a year at oran park, eastern creek and wakefield park. They also run with the WRX club and the Alfa club (which I'm a member of). If you want to see how the old holdens go check this out

We are doing things like Historic Leyburn Sprints, hillclimbs and just the odd fun stuff in the LC XU1 V8 replica. The Historic club is like a big family and the info is brilliant. I would suggest going to a few club meetings to get the feel. I went to a few then some people asked what we wanted to do and fell over giving advise on how to get there with S2 etc. Good clubs have good people that will help you even with the DUMBEST questions I have found out! Advise: Dont be afraid to ask. They all did once upon a time. Then they end up in your garage helping you get the rig ready so they can go out and BEAT you! Mongrels!!
