Hi. Just after some help from fellow LS1 owners please.

I've been looking for a VU SS ute for my sister recently in northern N.S.W. and S.E. Q.L.D. I had been told by a car salesman recently my own car is only worth $26,000 wholesale (02 VX SS M6 20,000km plus loads more extras). So I thought well if this is the case for mine, a VU SS ute of the same age etc etc should be around the $23,000-$24,000 mark.

I've looked at two so far in S.E. Q.L.D. at caryards, those being

A.) VU SS A4, white, 08/01, no mods at all, soft cover, 42,000km $33,000
B.) VU SS A4, hyper mica, no mods at all, soft cover, 119,000km $30,000

Can someone please tell me what's a realistic price to pay for a VU SS A4 these days? I'm after one basically standard with low km's. Can anyone also in S.E. Q.L.D. also tell me which auctions are best to go to, what days etc etc and just any other general information I need to know.

Thanks kindly for your help. I'm stuffed if I'm letting my sister pay $30,000 for a VU SS with 119,000km on the clock. To me that's just silly.

Give www.redbook.com.au a go. Just go through the section that describes the car you're looking for and it should give you a good idea what you should be paying.

i had a mate who was looking to trade in his vy ss ute. they offered him 26K. and his only has 40K km's on it.

I reakon i would only get 30K for mine in a private sale. which leaves me with 10 grand after the loans payed off.

The best Auctions are the ones you cannot buy at...Dealer Only ;) but I guess I can sound out a nice low K VY SS ute under 30K......if ya wanna come along for the ride and your finance is sorted...send me a pm......buying days are Wednesday and Friday ,allow yourself all day, should have been with me today for a nice 01VX Gen111 ute well south of 20K...mind you it was only the *S* variety but good value imho

my son just bought a( 10 days) vu ss ute 34000kms 2002 black for $33000 off a dealer but ithas a few modifications done to it we are in wa so you would think around about the $30000dollar mark might be right without the mods, but I'm no expert hope that helps. Just as a matter of crap that happens my husband took it for drive yesterday morning, they are working in a town about an hour away from here and got 100ms up the raod and roo decided to try and jump through the passenger side window and caused about $2000 worth of damage , talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time eh? my son was not happy Jan!!!

Thanks Mark, much appreciated! My sister has been through enough. She got married and her husband decided 12mths later he changed his mind and wanted to be single again  . I'm just trying to make sure I set her up in life this time so she doesn't have to rely on someone else to look after her. The last thing I want to se is her waste her money on something that's overpriced.

I just found the 02 Hyper Mica VU SS A4 with 119,000km for $30g a little steep.

Dealers try to give you less when trading/buying a ute so they go for a reasonable amount wholesale but then they want more when selling because they are a ute. Bit of a catch 22 if you are not carefull.

I have just sold my 2001 M6 with a few mods. (exhaust and lowering)
for $27000.
I had very few bites at it, so I am guessing it should be a buyers market.

gday guys before i left work VU ss utes were been traded in for around 22-25 and maybe alittle more for something very low km and pehaps alittle special..

you need to remeber that down in melb VY series 2 ss utes (stock no options)were going for $33990 plus orc's so i personally wouldnt pay anymore than $26000 for a vu ss ute with more than 50000kms i just think ppl get way to carried away with what they can ask for this car second hand ...

Man, the utes must be holding their value! Going by the value of my VXII SS sedan I would ahve thought low 20s not low 30s!

Just sold a 2002 VU Series II *S* 5 speed V6 80,000Klms for just over $20,000. Lowered, 18" rims, SS kit. awesome condition. Not an 8, but shows utes do hold their value.

Thanks everyone for your feedback and help, it's tremendiously appreciated!

OK I got the VU SS A4 white with 40,000km down from $33,000 to $28,000 which included transfering the rego to N.S.W. from Q.L.D. Is this a good buy? It's cloth interior, and a soft tonneua cover, and absolutely bog stock standard.

I also managed to get a new VY SS series II Ute, any colour I like, A4 with cloth interior, painted and fitted hardcover, N.S.W. registered drive away for $39,000. Is that a good deal at the moment with the run out prices from Holden?

Which one is the better choice? I'm leaning towards the VY at this point in time unless someone can tell me the VU is the better buy?

Thanks heaps everyone once again :)

I paid $35 exactly 12 months ago for my VUSS Series 2 with leather, 18in rims, hard cover and only 13k on the clock. At the time the best deal I could do on a comprable VY SS was 45k so thought it a good deal.

Have been told a number of times that the utes are a bit more than the sedans cause they are so popular. But in saying that there are deals to be had if you keep your eye out.

Trying To Help You Out Not Rip You Of I Dont Care Either Way As I Already Have Lined Up Trade In. Would Rather Sell To You Then Dealer...

No it's not that I'm not interested, because I am I'm just looking around to see what else is out there first before I commit to anything and keep my options open. My sister isn't the biggest fan of Hot House either but I've told her at this stage it just might be the better buy. I also have to take into consideration to change a Q.L.D. registered vehicle into N.S.W. she will have to pay 3% stamp duty (Q.L.D. is only 2%) plus rego and transfer fee and it will also cost her an extra $1000.

Thanks for the offer tho and it's definitely a contender :)
