Yesterday at 4am i ran over a truck tyre (re-tread) in my VY SS on the M4 at 100kph  It smashed the bar on the drivers side and fog light, ripped the inner guard out and where the inner guard screws into the guard it bent the guard (strong screws :( ).
Anyway the smash repairer said that they nor any other smash repairs can paint hothouse the same way Holden does WTF :bash: they said it will be solid green (no shading). It wouldn't be to bad if it was just the bar but the guard has to be repaired and painted.
Has anyone had their hothouse holden repaired if so can you notice the difference.
Thanks, Mat
P.S. next time i will buy a white car ;)

My dad re-sprayed his green VB to Hothouse Green, and unless you park the car next to the original colour you cant tell the difference, it still has the shimmer and it is only a slightly paler green. He got it done at a mates garage, so I'm sure if you found a top shelf spray painter you wouldn’t notice the difference for the repairs.

Mate I've got a Hothouse Maloo and have had a small splash of paint required.
Bodyworks I got to down here is ultra good and they said Hothouse is difficult to match but you can't fault the job they did. Perfect! Can't see why you should have any problems getting someone to do a top job of yours!
Yes i had my ute repainted three times because it did not match the back half. good luck get a good spray painter

I had a smash in my Green VY SS ute, a joint here in vic, Hossack smash repairs did the job, and no matter where the light hits the car, you simply CANNOT tell the difference. It was my drivers side 'ute' panel, bisically from the tailight, including rear 1/4 panel, upto the drivers door, happend over 6 months ago and I am yet to tell the difference. I also had my last ute, Delft Blue VU in a accident, and was also fixed by them, and you really couldn't notice the difference, unless you looked realllllly hard you could see the part where they blended it into the existing paint. But as for my Hothouse one, %100 perfect job, in no situation can you tell it's been resprayed, so some repairers obviously can do it.

On my old VY SS Ute I had to get my Bonnet resprayed after a gum tree branch landed on it  . Got a local guy up here in Brissy to fix and respray and no matter how hard I looked, I couldn't fault it. I would say that Hothouse like some other colours are difficult to match, but not impossible. Maybe he was covering his ass just incase it did look shit.
Cheers,
Scott
BTW. I did go and buy a white car next

At least the paints nice..
Anyone know if you can get touch up paint or "lipstick" to fix up small paint chips in hothouse green?
I just bought a VY SS and wanna get it lookin extra good without respraying.

I would've thought a dealer would sell it through spare parts?
Other than that, if you're desperate, try a couple of your local smash repairers and ask them if they've got any hothouse's coming in soon - they might be helpful enough and give you a little touch up bottle after they've done the mix for their customer. You never know your luck in the big city.

Just got back my ute on Friday after a young girlie decided to use it to help her car stop. The repainted the tailgate and no mater how hard I look I cant tell the difference.

Its clearly one of the harder colours to match and as they get older it gets even harder, ive seen 3 differant utes including my own that had panels repainted, none of them matched perfectly.
They dont even come from the factory that good, you can clearly see the differance in colour between the plastic and metal parts. "just check out your petrol cap in sunlight and shade.
If you really want to see the differance off a factory painted panel and a repair painted panel, take a photo of them together, it will stand out like dogs balls..
Surely we have some painters on the forum that could post up... Benny?

i just had some repairs to my hothouse green vyss (new bonnet and front left guard).. and there is no difference whatsoever between new panels and old. there are plenty of painters out there that can fix your car mate.. so stay away from that vb suckin yobbo that cant be bothered putting some effort in ;)

I had a neighbour that worked as one of those touch up guys for the local car dealerships. While doing some work on my car he mentioned that there were 3 different versions of the hothouse colour. Said it was a real bastard to match. Don't know if there is any truth in it but thought I'd mention it anyway.

I was told the same thing about Sting Red. There are apparently 4 different shades.

So why is Hothouse any more difficult to repair than any other metallic/mica paint colour? It just looks like metallic green to me...

Wayne Knows too well with hot house green is a hard colour to match my ute is a fine example. The reason being so differrent is holdens don't get covered to well and doesn't look as good as when someone paints one. the Colour look ten times better when it is apply better than factory. I have had the front painted and the door and quarter panel are two different colors from factory from Holden. OH well Full respray is on the cards next year.

Repairing any metallic can be quite challenging as there are so many variables which will effect the end result.
For example varying:
- Air pressure through spray gun
- Paint flow
- Technique (distance from job)
All slightly effect the appearance of the basecoat. Also, if the paint is applied too 'wet' the metallic will lay down and look flat etc. Hothouse just shows up these slight differences more than other metallics/micas obviously.
