As announced on Sports Tonight 11/10/04, Murphy will be departing Kmart Racing to join another as yet unnamed Holden team. He confirmed that it will definitely be a Holden team. Back to HRT perhaps?

Murphy is going to PWR, Tander is leaving GRM , Bright is playing the field and has no loyalty to either Holden or Ford or any team.....I think there's a word for that...

I thought I heard on RPM that Murphy will be going to team Kiwi a few weeks back. Either way it is a shame that himself and Rick Kelly wont be able to go for 3 in a row bathurst wins.

Heard exactly the above from a source who was speaking with Mr Rogers two weeks ago.

Murphy, Tander On The Move.
13th October, 2004.
With the necessary paperwork now finalised, Holden V8 Supercar drivers Greg Murphy and Garth Tander have confirmed that they will switch to new teams in season 2005.
With PWR Racing driver Jason Bright opting to start his own team next year, Kmart Racing's Murphy will take his seat at PWR while Tander moves from Garry Rogers Motorsport to join Rick Kelly at Kmart.
Tander, at 27, joined the Garry Rogers team as a 21-year old Formula Ford champion from Western Australia, and has occupied the seat of the #34 Repco/Valvoline/Cummins Commodore for seven years, being one of the longest team stayers of current V8 drivers, winning Bathurst in 2000 along the way.
"There comes a time when you have to reassess and move on, but I guess that's the name of the game," said the newly married Tander. "But that's all happening next year and my focus now is to do the job for GRM over the remaining three championship events."
Murphy, a four-times Bathurst winner as of last weekend, also cites a need to move on as the reason for change, after flying the flag for Kmart since 1999.
"You need to keep fresh and up to the task in such a highly competitive environment as V8s," The New Zealander said. "None of this will affect our performance for the remainder of the year with championship points in the balance."
Neither driver was tempted to jump the fence over to Ford during negotiations. "I guess you could say we're both Holden blokes through and through," Murphy said

On RPM a couple weeks ago they interviewed Bright. He said that he is starting his own team next year. One car to start with then to expand at a later date. He has a major sponsor and was in talks with both Holden and ford, he said that he would prefer to stay with Holden.
He also stated that he wasn't doing it for money it was for his long term future

I wonder how Rick Kelly will accept Garth's inclusion in the team. Apparently Rick wants Number 1 status from what I read in the paper. I don't think a seasoned campaigner like Tander would take that introduction to the Kmart team too well.

The Bathurst 1000 winning combination of Greg Murphy and Rick Kelly has officially split, with Murphy confirming he will quit K-Mart Racing for fellow Holden team PWR Racing next year.
Murphy will replace Jason Bright at PWR, with Bright wanting to start his own V8 Supercar team next season and being linked with a million-dollar move to Ford.
Four-time Bathurst winner Murphy's move has been tipped widely for the past week.
The New Zealander said he needed a change after being at K-Mart Racing since 1999, but was pleased to remain with a Holden team.
"You need to keep fresh and up to the task in such a highly competitive environment as V8s," Murphy said.
"None of this will affect our performance for the remainder of the year with championship points in the balance."
West Australian Garth Tander will move from Repco Valvoline Cummins Racing to link up with Kelly at K-Mart next season.

thats right rick and todd's parents bought KMart racing a while back now. i wonder how long todd's contract is for at HRT as i would imagine he would be moving to KMart as soon as that is over. HRT may find it difficult to attract another high calibre driver to partner skaife when and if this happens.
bright is apparently adamant that he will be driving for his own team next year. does this mean that he will be buying into FPR??????

Rick leave his father's team? How likely would that be?

Kmart have already stated that there will not be a designated #1 driver when Tander joins....we'll see. Kelly is the better driver of the 2 anyway, he is absolutely sensational in the wet and is a hell of a lot more consistent than Tander.....Tander is a good driver also and would be in the top 10 IMHO.
Todd Kelly is very happy at HRT but has a great relationship with Rick so who knows what might happen in a couple of years time.

Todd did :) , he left to go to HRT
It is sensible when you think about it. The learn all they can from a competitive team, then bring all the ideas / info back to the family to enhance their own team.
Greg Murphy is doing the same thing. His father bought 50% of the Lansvale level 1 licences. In 3-4 years they will belong to Greg - hence his own 2 car team. He is doing the learn as much as you can tour before taking over.
