I have recently been looking at the new TT36 Concept Torana.
It has a very nice engine, with it's twin turbo, 3.6 litre engine, it has a lot of power, and with the new sleek European design, it fits into society nicely.
But should it really be called the Torana?? If you say Torana to someone they think of the gutsy L34 engine in the slr/5000 or a quick little A9X, not a new rounded pink car, maybe it should have a new name, or be put under the Astra or Vectra name, and the white interior? what are the Holden designers thinking?
I think it is an offense to the Torana name!!
Anyways check out this website, where the Torana is:
http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/news_reports/2004-australian-motor-show-holden.htm
And then get back to me with what you think
IMHO its only pink to grab your attention...
Would love it in impulse blue...

Indeed would be a good colour for it.
Although Cherry red would look good as well I think.

It only reminds you of A9Xx if you are younger, older guys think big six, small car, horsepower...XU1!!

the paint is just all wrong
to be a true torana it needs a couple of panels one colour, some others another and thena few patches of primer

Hey LS2_V8, I'm not trying to flame you here but the idea of the Torana concept was to give an insight of where the Holden Design department are going. It has clues all over it as to what the VE Commodore may look like. The white interior was suppossed to grab your attention, so people would have a look inside. The Pink paint job was also to grab your attention. I also read somewhere, that most of the interior was made up from the GM parts bin. It is only a concept, so don't go jumping to conclusions. As for the Astra and the Vectra, they are German designed cars from the GM outlet, Opel.

:teach: No offence intended but,as i've read people's thoughts on various forums this past week or so , i've got to say if the colour and interior is all you can comment on ,then i'm afraid perhaps, the whole concept has gone right over your head .Most internet forums are frequented by youngsters too young to understand! :bash:
Far from disgracing the Torana name the colour scheme is a retro homage - the pink/white is classic 1970's . The ManGenta name is almost a direct steal from Chrysler's RT charger .XU1's were also available from the factory in a light metallic pink .
Get with the program , Man :)

Lowriding hit it on the nose, I just bought a Bathurst spec XU1 LC in Sept 71 then the Strike Me Pink LJ came out in 72..I would have given my left nut for one!!..Different time, different place, different world...They will never understand Low, You and I, and a few others do though! ;)

wasnt it the HQ Monaros that were a metallic pink...?As Rory M said the Xu-1 colour was strike me pink( bright pink ) ....and I think there was a purple called Stans shirt

Wasnt the Purple in the HQ Monaro range called purr pull?
The Torana in silver with a more conservative interior would be a great way for GM to take on the german makers

When my dads best mate got his Tiger Mica Commodore S (VT series 1) which was a one-off people thought it was a horrible color, and they would rather look at vomit, then they released the color on the series 2, and everyone wanted it... same thing happened with the HotHouse Green, and all those other colors Holden released... In a couple years, you will all be talking about how awesome that pink color is....

1973 XU1 was Orchid Mettalic in the range, metallic Pink. low is correct.

There was a range of pink/purple colours in HQ and Torana in the 70s (and with white interiors)
Get with the programe and understand the meaning of a "concept" :bash:
Actually that concept pink is hot! Maybe not the white but there arent many colours that go with it when you think about it.
I guarantee not too many would be turned down if that was the only colour available :p

Holdem marketing are very astute when it comes to placing the correct product into the area they are servicing.
Why was it PINK?
It was the SYDNEY motor show. :limpy:
The Melbourne one will be GREEN & YELLOW and the Brisbane one MAROON with a RED hatch.

Torana smorana. What a shite name for what overall was POS car. Other than the A9X, SLR 5000 and GTR XU1, the rest were crap.
Do yourself a favour Holden spend a few bucks and come up with an original name, that might appeal to a wider audience than neanderthal beer drinking, yobbos.
Bring it on.

Torana is a great name (apart from any association to the 4 cyl versions  ) as we all remember the 6 & 8 cyl performance models and Bathurst etc. If you dont like it submit a better one. Cant imagine many your neanderthal mates driving one actually :p

What does everyone want? To be like everyone else with a boring beige or grey interior and a dark exterior? I would buy that car as it is. Preferably with a Gen IV, but i would be happy with the 3.6 twin turbo. Just don't call it a Torana cos i really hate that name - i would have to start going to chappel St, wearing a beanie and flooring it at every set of lights to prove my self-worth.

Hmmm - why has noone suggested shoehorning an LS2 (suitably hotted) into the new "Torana" - that would be a worthy successor to the historical ones.
(edit - Doh, Chevypower did! - me need glasses!)
If it's 200kg or so lighter that may be a nice little recipe.

Holden could have gone lot further than just the Pink paint job.
They could have had the "pair of dice tied to the rear view mirror" or a "vacuum-operated collapsible dog on tha back window!!!!!"

Holden will focus group the "Torana" name exhaustively to see whether it fits the car's overall branding strategy.

I'm with Evil LS1 and co. on this one... Bin the Torana moniker and come up with something original... I recall reading the Holden GM saying they called it Torana, becuase that's what the public would call it anyway... What a load of crap..
Don't be so lazy... get out there and see what the public actually really thinks before assuming we'll just call it Torana... Only the media would instantly jump on the Torana bandwagon if it was named something new...

Probably assuming that based on what happened with the original VT Coupe, and not many people ever did call it the VT Coupe... but yeah call that a Monaro, and give this other thing a brand new name... Or they will have to bring back Geminis next

Can someone who is good at photoshop change the colour to make all the shallow people who cant get past it happy. As for the donk it could be holden sugesting an answer to fpv's F6 typhoon, and the design of the car seems to be an attractive one, a continuation on from the opel that we all saw a few months back and a lead into the VE who knows, all I will say is that it seems to be a step in the right direction and a very quick way to shut anyone who likes 2L turbos up, (wrx/evo) it has power figures that are higher than that of the legendary jap gtr's and supras at almost the same CI, i say bring on sequential turbos and put it on a solid platform and you have a good way around high fuel costs but with extreem boogy.

I must've been about 14-15 when the guy next door rocked up with his brand new pink XU1, Whole street came and had a gander at it. I was an apprentice beer drinking neadathal (with a pair of pink flairs for my best pants), and that long haired dude next door (with mo) was my idea of cool. Amazing. lol.

From Carsguide:
Resurrecting old Holden badges
Warren's Wheels
15oct04
In the cab on the way down to the Australian International Motor Show last week, I had a sneaking suspicion I'd be confronted by the usual suspects. There'd be sensational cars draped with sensational models in sensational gear.
Conversely, there'd be no shortage of gorilla-necked car peddlers reeking of Paco Rabanne, wearing way-too-small suits and striding and puffing around the exhibition centre, conspicuously attached to mobile phones, which must surely mean they're men of influence in Detroit, Turin or Geelong.
There was, of course, the usual unveiling of show stoppers – the $1.8million, 330km/h Maserati, the sexy Alfa, the exotic "scissor-doored" Koenigsegg, an array of quirky and totally undesirable Japanese concept cars and the wildly ludicrous, one-off Rolls Royce 100EX drop-head convertible, which had the appearance (and probably the aerodynamics) of being hewn from an enormous block of titanium.
But curiously, the event everyone now expects to see at the Motor Show is Holden's unveiling of a car badged with a name prised off the boot of one of their models from 30 years ago. The Monaro I can understand, but blow me down, what's unveiled this year? The Torana!
Sure, there were red-hot racing versions of the Torana, there was the XU1 and the lairy lime-green SLR 5000, but there were some fairly pedestrian shopping-trolley versions as well.
We had next-door neighbours who had moved from New Zealand to buy one – a ghastly turquoise four-cylinder number. I remember various uncles peering over the fence checking it out, patronisingly writing it off as the sort of thing the missus could park next to the Premier under the carport. Don't get me wrong – the Torana unveiled last week was a diabolical V6 twin-turbo that cranks out more horsepower than the entire Qantas fleet at redline – it's just the choice of name that worries me.
Where will it stop? What will Holden resurrect in 2005? Surely not the Sunbird.
Or the Gemini diesel. Or that four-cylinder royal blue Commodore with ER livery commemorating the Queen coming to Australia and cutting a ribbon at the Gulargambone Arts and Crafts Festival and Lamington Bake-Off.
No, 2005 calls for some serious retro input for Holden's line-up and the boffins have come up with an absolute winner that incorporates many of Holden's highlights over the years.
Yep, it's time for the FJ to come back.
The 2005 FJ will be powered by a commemorative 2.15-litre, six-cylinder motor as per the original 48-215 Holden of 1948, complete with a set of gold-plated Sidchrome spanners so that you and the missus can stay at home on the weekends and change the head gasket together.
Of course, the ladies receive a limited-edition GMH handbag, crafted from the finest leatherette, containing a tube of valve-grinding paste, a pint of Redex and a bottle opener.
The upholstery is printed in the paisley design as standard in the 1970 Holden Brougham, made from an indestructible vinyl that remains unmarked even when an ignited, unfiltered Ardath cigarette is stubbed out on it. Safety features include no seatbelts so that you can be "thrown clear" on impact and a solid Lysaght Steel dashboard with lots of sharp, stainless-steel knobs and switches.
And the entertainment system? None of those pesky "doof-doof" woofers and CDs and DVDs and stuff.
Only the finest AWA valve wireless, warmed up in just four minutes and crafted to receive Jack Davey, Howard Craven and Len London as they play a bit of Lawrence Welk and the Kingston Trio.
Fitted with the latest three-ply Goodyear Razorblade-brand radial tyres, the Holden is still a head-turner when it's boiling by the roadside, a feature achieved by having the thermostat removed at the factory, saving you having to chuck the stupid thing away yourself.
Additional options include venetian blinds, spring-loaded wire things that poke from the corner of the car to scrape the kerb when reverse parking and a Sir Robert Menzies commemorative rubber earth strap to drag on the ground to prevent serious static electrical shock.
The 2005 FJ is the car Australians want. After all, we've just re-elected a prime minister whose vision forward is to go backwards, so a new, super-retro Holden could be just the ticket. He can put on his Ben Chifley hat and rip the sheet off the thing at the next Motor Show.
