No they aren't able to recieve PM's, since they can no longer log onto the forum to view them.

Yes there is a number....., but i was more questioning that if a user is banned why wouldn't there threads then be deleted. Obviously if they are banned they havn't conformed to the rules and regulation or may be untrustworthy, selling non genuine items etc etc-(i dont no the reasons behind members being banned), therefore its the Forum's responsibility then to alleviate any genuine member from being burnt or stuff around by non-legit members..or am i on the wrong track....

Exactly.
therefore its the Forum's responsibility then to alleviate any genuine member from being burnt or stuff around by non-legit members
And we would delete the threads if the products were known to be non-legit - refer to the previous statement
or am i on the wrong track....
Quite possibly :D

It should be noted also that the classifieds section is no different to the adds in a paper, you take your chances, if you get stiffed you don't attack the media that listed the add.
We may remove the user if a problem is brought to our attention, however we don't have any "power" beyond that.
The user in question was not banned because of their ability to make good on a classifieds deal.
Caveat emptor!!

I don't know why this has attracted such trivial responses you take a chance with anything you buy from anyonoe, but a paper classified section wouldnt print a classified when beside there name has 'banned' they just wouldnt print it or keep the classified up if they have been black-listed.
When i disbale a user account at work who was 'dimissed' or for what ever reason i dont allow them to keep there present email address or publish any other details for that matter, causing more confusion to the staff members.
Why keep a classified thread when the user is not part of the forum or 'banned' for that matter?
All i was asking from the start is that if there banned can they be still PM-able, i have that answer now.....
I would find that it would alleviate this current thread, questions and confusion if the classified in question was deleted rather than having it as active but at the same time the user is banned
What are readers meant to think...very confusing.
EXL8_V8- Thanks for your informative answers, very helpfull.
STRIFE- yes i have the information i needed from the 'classified' i think your two questions are all what was needed here, some should follow your practices. Cheers

I'd suggest that the mods are kept busy enough without having to go through a banned members posts to delete them. Also in the instance of a short ban it would be pointless.
At least the user name has banned under it so you know not to bother with a pm.

The post was left simply so those who had already viewed it and were interested in the goods could purchase them should they choose too. The user was banned AFTER the add had been posted and viewed by forum members. Had we deleted it someone would have complained that they wanted to buy the goods and could not because the add was deleted - damned if we do and damned if we don't!!!
Hardly think the responses here are trivial.
You stated you wanted to ask a question - the persons phone number is in the add!! So if you wanted to ask a question - make a phone call, not that confusing at all.
You then implied that the forum has a duty of care to make sure people who advertised on a public interent forum were trustworthy??
Really...........
