It wasn't until the inception of Monaro that Holden, and then Ford (perhaps to an even greater degree) decided to shed the dull paint colours in favour of more vibrant colours. Can we expect a continuation of this colour trend or are we likely to see a variation of the more conservative colours - I notice that some of brighter Monaro colours are being replaced with darker colours?
And do you believe that, what originally were exclusive Monaro colours, should be subsequently used on mainstream models as I'm sure some owners who purchase these "hero" cars do so based on the colour being distinctive, only to be disappointed later to find their favourite colour suddenly becomes too popular?
Also, do copy-cat colours of rival makes also force Holden to upgrade their colour palette, as we have sometimes seen with series 2 models sporting new colours.
Thanks in advance.

The problem with the hero colours is that they date the car whereas the black and red are timeless.

Yeh, Ford have a much wider variety in colours...Alot better ones too, Blood Orange looks sweet. Only holden colours i like are 'Tursimo, Impulse Blue, Sting Red, Heron White, the HSV yellow and straight Black. The rest are dull greys and mixes of blues and greens, there uguly. Real uguly

Hey SSBaby - Our colors are selected based on trends and what our customers are telling us they want. The move for brighter impact colors showing the uniqueness of models and brands is still important and the frequency of freshening our hero colors is always a consideration.
There have been instances where a hero color was extended to other selected performance models - Hothouse being the perfect example - because the demand was so huge.
Hi Holden Ref,
I drive a VY SV8. The colours available at the time (Quicksilver, Red Hot and Black) were carry-over colours from the VX (correct?).
With the new VZ, the SV8 is limted to the same three colours. I know that the SV8 is a bargain basement model and colours for this model will probably always be limited. However, would it be possible to change the choice to three different colours? For those of us who believe that the SV8 is good value, it would be nice to be able to select from a different range of limited options when our VY's a due for replacement. I'd like to see one or two more solid colours made avaliable.
I agree with the comment above that Ford has a wider range of eye-catching colours and I am glad to see that Holden has added Impulse to its colour chart. When I bought my SV8, I also looked at the XR6 turbos as there's not much difference in price. The XR6 has a better selection of colours compared to the SV8.

Sorry but I can't agree with that. When looking for a new car, the colour choice is what the factory is offering at the time.
My personal favourite colour is tiger mica which hasn't been available since the vx holden and the vt11 HSV. Enquiries at dealerships at each successive new model launch as to whether it has come back or likely to come back result in either "no idea" or "no".
If my interest is relayed back to you people, then I would expect that there would be a lead time of a couple of models if you decided to reintroduce the colour. I doubt very much though that my feedback is passed on from the sales reps attitudes, eg. "it's only a coat of paint, what does it matter?".
For me, and I'm sure for all the forum members, cars are a passion, not just "white goods" and the colour is very important in expressing that passion, We all have different tastes, thank goodness, the roads would be very boring otherwise.
It would be nice, although I understand that its not feasible, if new colours could be revealed earlier on to help strange people like me plan future purchasing decisions.
Your particpation in this forum is great and I'm sure will lead to even greater Holden products in the years ahead.
Thanks for listening.
Cheers,

I'd like to see 'concept' colors make it to the market too. That Kryptonite color for the SSX was a much better, richer, green than the Hothouse and that 'Man Pink' would look sweet on the monaro too.
I also saw a Devil Yellow VX Commodore today in my travels. Definitely NOT for the four door family.

Agree - it would be a great idea (if it didn't show our hand to the rest of the market as well) so practicalities come into play.
Re offering feedback - don't stop doing that with the dealer or the manufacturer. That's what keeps our focus on generating that "I HAVE TO have THAT Holden NOW" feeling for you.

It all comes and goes in cycles - just like any other 'fashion'

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.
My next request is please dont bring back tiger mica for at least 4 years so I have time to recover from wallet shock. I'm picking up my new clubbie (impulse) tomorrow and I don't want to get that "I have to have it now" feeling for a while. There will be tears when I hand over my clubbie & berlina super 6, both tiger mica :bawl:

I for one would like to see the capability to mix and match interior colours with the exterior. Initially I wanted a black coupe with brown leather, but it couldnt be done. Another combois Impulse Blue/Grey, like the italian Alfas. Flexibility in colour matching would sell a lot of cars.

While on the topic of colors - it has been discussed many times on this forum about the numbers of cars made in certain short run colors.
Are you able to list data of number of cars produced in each color?
I have a purple haze Monaro and I am particularly interested to know how many were made in this color. (Also interested in how many had matching purple leather and were auto/manual).
Cheers.

Haze V8 - That's more detail than we would release. Every other carmaker would be interested to know which colors had done well.
