My apologies to the mods if this belongs in the forum section.
I'm going up to the Gold Coast (hurrah!) on the weekend to look at and possibly buy a car. My question is, what type of documentation do I need to change to rego. from QLD to NSW as I know NSW are anal in comparison to the sunshine state regarding registration . Also, as the car is an import and has been converted to RHD (it has compliance plates under the hood) who would I contact about getting copies of Import Papers?
Cheers

Just done this same thing mate. When you get the car you'll need to get the form called "Vechicle Registration Transfer Application" (Form F3520) and you can download it from the Qld Dept of transport site (www.transport.qld.gov.au i think).
Fill this form out, then take the car to someone in NSW who can do a "Blue Slip" (ie has to go over the pits, more indepth inspection, etc). Once you get the blue slip ($60 for Oz Built car, $160 for Import) you goto the RTA with the Blue slip and the above form filled out by yourself & previous owner.
Any more questions PM me as i brang my GTS down from Qld and im in the process of transfering the rego as we speak.
Also, as the car is an import and has been converted to RHD (it has compliance plates under the hood) who would I contact about getting copies of Import Papers? Id assume if you speak to the Dept of Government that handles Vechile imports (Cant think of the name) they should either be able to give you the docs you mentioned or point you in the right direction.

Folks I need to know if the motor registries are open in QLD on saturdays as I'm not sure where I stand if I wish to drive the car back to Sydney if I buy it. I've come to the conclusion that I need:
1. To fill out this Form F3520 (thanx ryzz)
2. Once back in NSW get inspection (blue slip) done.
3. Contact an insurance company to get a cover note for the trip back.
Is there anything else I am forgetting???? I am hoping the owner has the import papers for the car as I've been told it can cause a bit of grief when trying to get it registered.
Cheers

Nope......if the car has previous Aus reg things should go smoothly...note the word *should*
Nope......
Print the forms i mentioned before (they will print fine on a colour printer), get the owner to fill out there part, you fill out your part. The owner submits there section to QLD Transport.
You drive the car back to sydney with the original plates on it (If the owner wants to keep the plates tell them to swap the plates for generics before you buy it).
Then when you get to sydney you get ya blueslip and your rego done.
As for insurance, Im with shannons but they were closed when i purchased the car (They close @ midday on a Saturday  ) so i took a policy out with NRMA and canceled it when i got to sydney. All insurnace policys have a 1 week cooling off period where you can back out at no cost.
I am hoping the owner has the import papers for the car What car are you buying?? I dont know of many LS1's that are imports :stick:

.
Transfer of reg form consists of two parts / green and white...both are to be filled in by seller and buyer....seller then gives buyer part one ( Green) of the transfer form along with current rego papers and a current QLD Safety Certificate...the onus is on you the BUYER to lodge these papers with QLD Department of transport......note:.....you are given 14 days to do so.
As with all government forms there are ways around the above dependant on how your planning to buy the car......the transfer is also done differently when buying from a LMVD.
note the seller then files his part of the transfer away in Bin 13 should you not lodge the forms with the 14 days or cop some fines etc........this is his proof he sold you the car on a given day.
