I had a test drive of the new clubby yesterday and wasn't overly impressed with the low down torque that is supposed to be so much better. It certainly felt a bit stronger than my vt11 clubby but nothing as dramatic as what I've been reading in the mags.
To be fair, the test car only had 70km on it so it woulld still be tight so I would like some feedback on how they feel when they've loosened up a bit.
My car & the test car are autos.
Thanks fellas

Hey Mate,
Although i haven't driven the new clubbie, i own a vy2 r8 . I've seen pictures and read a lot of the stuff they say in the mags.
I think my clubbie looks way better than the vz , they went very conservative on the look on the vz, i like the more aggressive look of the vy/vy2 . I think it was in Wheels, they were like :
' woah, the LS2 has got so much grunt that the traction control was disturbed going in 4th gear" ... errrr .... i can do that with my vy2 .....
I really thought they overdid it a little bit...

i really think you need to look into the future with the LS2, remember it would be highly de-tuned. Just wait till HSV start releasing clubbies with 350kw or there abouts, even better just wait to see what mods will do for them, i think power figures for modded LS2 are going to be in the crazy catergory.

Thanks for your thoughts guys.
It's going to cost a lot more $ than I was hoping for to get into the vz (isn't that always the way?) but the hard bargaining starts on tuesday.
Although it was a nice drive, it just didn't seem to be the "great leap forward" I was expecting from the motor mags ravings..
Yeah, BlackCubbie, my daughter recently got a vy11r8 and it goes like stink, even a little quicker than my vt11....damn!....a situation I need to address. I like the looks of both the vy & vz. I do agree that the vy looks a bit tougher.
I hear what you are saying Sean82. There should be some exciting rides out there once the ls2 mods start coming. My clubbie is stock and I've been thinking about upgrading by doing all the usual engine mods along with upgraded brakes & suspension. But I'm coming around to the view that I would be better off in the long run putting those $ into a new vz.
Cheers

I agree that the VY HSV's look more agressive than Z's. The front end treatment is a little less agressive on Z's due to the straight lower bar and color coding IMO. Having said that I'd do anything for a HSV VZ LS2.

If they had stroked the bloody thing to begin with maybe the few that have had a chance to drive a new Clubby, would have walked away feeling happier.
ATM a new GT slick 6 speed and a visit to Rob Herrod would be a better option.

No mate, its not. Only interested in an auto and the auto gt offers no performance advantage over my vt11 and imho doesnt look as good. (don't want to restart the holden v ford debate, that's not the point of this thread).
I was trying to find out what living with an LS2 was really like.
If the financial negotiation works out today, I'll be in one at the weekend.

Hi Jed
I test drove a clubbie last week from Zupps Mt Gravatt and I came away with the same feeling you did. A little dissapointed, probably expecting to much after all the media hype. I know its quick, because its been proven, it just doesn't feel quick. Drove a WRX Sti the same week and although its probably slower than the new VZ and my current VU, it sure produced more excitment.
I think it might have something to do with that flat torque curve. The constant urge spread over the entire rev band as apposed to the feeling we're used to with the urge increasing as the revs rise.
But I must say I'm still undicided about a new car, was hoping to order a new R8 but after the test drive failed to excite me the way the STI did I not sure.
Cheers Jeff

The old jed55 will soon be no more, welcome the new jed55.
Have signed up for a vz clubsport a4, impulse blue to be delivered next week.
When I started this thread I didn't realise how new the vz hsv's were and was wondering why I hadn't had a response from a vz owner. Now I realise there probably aren't any on the forum. Zupps told me that mine will be the first a4 vz clubbie they have sold so it seems I am finally a trendsetter, LOL.
Hi Red Maloo R8, Zupps at Mt Gravatt have an a4 R8 and a manual clubsport for demos. I was told they aren't for sale and are going to hang on to them solely for demos. I am happy with the deal, seeing as how its a new release.
Hi mid life, a bit freaky that you contacted Michael while I was doing the paperwork. I told Michael that I had put the question out on this site and we were having a look to see if I had any new posts and bugger me, there you were.
My youngest brother's brother-in-law has a rex and it flies. He drives it hard and has cost him a number of clutch and gearbox rebuilds but he absolutely flogs it. I find it a bit too busy for my tastes, I prefer to roll along on the torque.
Will post some pix when I take delivery. Can hardly wait.
Cheers,
John D

Congrads jed55 on your new purchase, how long did they tell you for delivery?
If I'm going to get one I want an "05" plated one, but I need to drive the rex again just to be sure.

Thanks mid life. Mine is in stock but at Aspley, so I'll be getting it next Tuesday if all goes to plan. I don't know what else they had available but mine is the only blue auto clubbie they had and I was told that with the xmas shutdown etc they werent expecting more stock till next feb - march.
Don't know about the r8s as I was only after a clubbie. So i imagine you would have to hold off till then for an 05 plated one.

Hi Cat755. Welcome from another newbie. Have only been registered for about 3 weeks myself but had been reading this forum for a while.
I guess I'm lucky because I'm just getting a basic clubbie and they had 1 in my colour. I would hate to have to wait as long as you will be, nice xmas pressie though.
Yours sounds pretty trick. Would have liked the r8 but the $ didn't stetch far enough.

Test drove an M6 VZ Clubbie today - very very impressed :) I was quite amazed - tons of torque down low, great to drive puttering around town. Lacked a bit of top end compared to what I'm used to, but overall a huge improvment over the LS1 IMO. Now if only I could afford one :(

Hi Drewbytes.
I suppose I should have had a run in the manual coz it would probably show off the torque improvement better than the auto but as I would be buying an auto I didn't bother.
Yeah, they're not giving them away are they? Still, I'm happy with my deal and itching to get mine.

Anyone know where i can test drive a VZ HSV in Sydney ? Have rung a couple of dealers and all of them are 'waiting' to get some stock in.
Sounds like from reading this thread that even if i ordered this weekend i would not get my car till the New Year ? Might purchase in Jan 05 and try and save some money on a 04 plated car ? Then again it does not sound like they will have a lot of stock left over from 04........
On another front i have a VX clubbie. I am thinking of going to a Maloo R8 and getting the AP brakes. Can't afford that config on a Clubbie R8. Anyone out there gone from driving a 4 door sedan to the Ute ? Any comments. Only my wife and I so dont need 4 doors. But do a lot of interstate driving so i am assuming the cargo area on the Ute is waterproof and lockable and i can put my bags in there etc.
cheers

A supercharger and a stroker motor ago you probably could have, but a lot of fun missing in between i'd imagine.

Exactly! In all honestly, I was that impressed that I thought to myself that if I could buy an LS2 HSV I would keep it dead stock, no mods needed.

Oh bulltwang! stop kidding yourself when LS2 edit comes out you probably couldn't resist the mod. ;)
Dead stock! pfft I don't believe that one bit.

undefinedDrove a new yellow VZ GTO M6 coupe last night. And can honestly say I loved it :D so much so I've put an order in for a Black VZ GTO with the 6 pot brakes. :D :D :D
Was lucky to have a drive in both heavy traffic and freeway. Found the new gearbox and absolute gem and that engine. Love the new shadow chrome rims. Gave the traction control a bit of a go and found it such an improvement on previous models. It's made the car feel more finished. On or Off the car feels more polished. The drive I think now matchs the looks.....
All I can say is extractors and edit. Had a chat to the dealer and he's had one customer already mod his new VZ Clubbie with great results.
Had a good look a Coupe 4 last night and in the flesh looks great. The car I believe is development car for a twin - turbo setup.

When you do discover them around the Sydney shire, be sure to let us all know. I for one am absolutely itching to try one, but have been told the same story as you...waiting to get stock in.
Drewbytes, how did the clubby sound? From what others are saying its somewhat mute?

Alright, maybe just edit, I don't count that as a real mod ;)
kompiler, it was very quiet at cruise/idle, but under any acceleration (even just up to 3000 rpm) it sounded quite nice to me. Nice note, but not loud, on the outside too.
