Got a problem, I'm a girl and i need some car advice. Got an 88 VL, got oil in the water, and water in the oil. Is it a cracked head or what? Also, you reckon it's time to say goodbye to my highschool sweetheart and upgrade? Car runs beautifully otherwise.....
any ideas will be much appreciated..

Bare minimum will be a head gasket........
These engines can be very expensive to work on unless you have someone who can do the work for free for you....
could be time to upgrade, just realise the trade in value will be very depressing.

If Its The Head You Will Probably See A Crack Running Up The Middle Of The Head Under The Cam.

Sounds like the head alright one of the weakest links of the RB30 fitted in the Commodores. Could put in a DOHC head from an RB25/26 engine would give it a bit of a boost in performance. But depends on how much $$$ you want to spend.

I would also do the RB25/26 head one but it isnt that easy to do it is a bit costly. The best head set up to use is the RB25 aspro servios without the veriable cam timing set up in it. I put one on my VL made some handy figures till i wrapped it around a tree.

i'm guessing you have a crack in the cylinder head. that's what happened to my old vl.- once you get it fixed, though- what abeast to drive!!

to bad your in melb, i could sell you a complete good cond motor complete for $300. left over spare motor runs well no cracks, you can have the reco'd auto with it for another $200.
