I ,like probably a few here, am not happy with the Gearknob
on the 6 speed gearbox behind the LS1.

the problem is that it does not fit the hand..
its sorta hard to describe but the gearknob
is hard to grab, the top is too big to fit in the
palm of the hand and it doesn't fit between
the thumb and 1st finger
its...just hard to hold
(and its not the covering that is the problem, its the shape!)

I notice that the basic shape (with a few mods)
has been used on Monaro and HSVs

me?
I got so annoyed with it, i went out and bought a Momo knob for mine about a week after i got the car
oh...
I also like the gear knob on the new 6 speed on the BA II
(thats heresy )

any comments?

cheers

Smitty - like everything, your preference is your preference. We always look to ensure the most people agree with what we're doing, and everyone has an opinion (which is great!)

I got sick of them too...
still did not feel right in the hand when shifting

so
I made my own!

its a HZ GTS gearknob
on a height adjustable shaft (about 30mm up and down)
and its angle adjustable with the use of shims
about 15° towards or away from the driver or standard (not angled)
the shaft has the standard Holden antivibration bush on it
so no rattles and
the shifter shaft has a thread at the top so it will accept any screwon knob
the shaft just bolts to the standard T56 extension
and
it works very well

in the piccies the shaft is set just about at its highest
..for the best leverage
1-2 shifts and 2-3 shifts are now easy

While we are on the subject of knobs (gear shifter knobs, you prats), I think Holden should have a look inside a Mercedes Mclaren SLR? I think that is the one. The one with the flip-up cap on the gear knob with the starter button underneath it. Put that inside the HSV's or the SS even! That would be the shizzle :D

I've had an aftermarket gear knob on my car for ages. At first I couldn't stop it rattling so used some silastic and that did the trick. I installed a Ripshift about a month ago and couldn't stop the knob rattling, even with silastic! The light alloy knob seems to amplify the sound. I've just put a satin chrome standard knob on and it's now much quieter. I think the extra weight in the standard knob helps, and also seems to make shifting quicker.

You complain about a gearnob and then ramble on about a shaft you have made yourself ?

Why didnt you just say ' check out the new ADR compliant shaft I have made myself '
