Ordered the VZ one tonner today and immediately started thinking mods as we all do. Wanted the new 18" cheese cutters and big brake package from holden but they would'nt sell them because of the load considerations.

I got thinking and thought well whats the warranty really worth in real dollar terms. Well I know at least to all the dudes out there that had the engine problems from the VT-VX and some VY's they would definitely say the warranty is worth its weight in gold. But now Holden's sorted its preverbial out with the engines (fingers X) whats the worst that could go wrong?

I guess the point I'm trying to make is screw Holden I'm gonna do what I like with my car and they don't need to be concerned because I will do all the services and take the wrap for any mis demeanours (is that how its spelt)

Interested on your thoughts guys

Find a good dealer, and you can do your mods AND keep your warranty! :)

There's dealers who don't mind exhausts, extractors and even mafless edits. Some will even tolerate cams. I guess if you're considering forced induction or a big cam, you can kiss your powertrain warranty goodbye. :D

I also know people who service their cars themself, and manage to keep the warranty. :)

Cheers.

If you want to negotiate best price and dont care for warranty you can save many thousands by cutting it out - it is up to the dealer to decide - personally I wouldnt do it, your choice :) good luck

Well, I don't know what a warranty would be worth in dollar terms but to able to pull up to a Holden dealer and have anything from a rattle to powertrain rebuild/replacement is piece of mind. You can't quantify that.

And would you still qualify for product recalls without warranty?

It's your choice but if you have more than 1 Holden dealer in your area, my advice is find one who is tolerant with reasonable mods, and keep your piece of mind... you never know when you might need it!!

I have an understanding with my dealer. I dont claim things i break or that are caused by my mods, he fixes what breaks for any other reason. When i burnt out my brakes i didnt try and get Holden to replace them, i put my hand in my pocket. When the leather on my steering wheel failed.... that was replaced under warrenty.

Im about to put a cam in the car next week. Now if something related to that install or part fails i dont try and claim it from Holden. Ive found if im fair with the dealer, they are fair with me.

..and that's exactly how it should be (on both sides). :)

Guys, I think boyley's situation is rather different - I think what holden are saying to him is that the rims and brakes dont meet load rating requirements of the one tonner. Technically his car would be unroadworthy (and uninsured) with these items. Its not as simple as voiding his warranty.

If he is referring to engine modifications, tell 'em to stick their warranty up their arse. Dont fark around with load ratings on rims/tyres though. These requirements are their for your safety.

Agreed. Losing warranty is one thing, losing insurance is something entirely different.

You can get the tonners happnin pretty well. without the dealers Knowning too much,THE tyres are a prob though.ya should fit a strut brace helps the tonners heaps, until ya get onto a decent set of comercially rated low profile tyres(soon to be released if not already),(insurance issues) I recon the brakes arn't too bad as they are but they do tend to fade a lil bit im going to try vented discs with the original calipers i spose
just my thoughts but

I think that warranty is law - but can be voided by either party????. So, talk to your dealer - you might be able to come to an 'understanding'
