I currently have stock FE2 springs in my VY exe sadan, I want to change the springs and lower the car about 2 inchs but I want to retain a resonably good ride and keep the stock shocks. Can anyone recommend some good springs in sydney area?

I have used Pedders springs in the past I found them to be to harsh and not a good compromise between handing and ride comfort...

cheers guys

If you lower the car you need to match the shocks to the spring. If you dont the Shock will die soon enough anyway. Do a search on Koni/Bilstein/KYB/Kings. Heaps of info on these forums to read up on.

I got my VY SV8 done at Midas (the guy who owns the shop drives an A9X, and is a bit of a Holden nut). The front sits 330mm from centre of wheel to guard. I went back today actually because the rear was sitting 350mm and just didn't look right. It's now sitting just like the front... 330mm and it looks a million bucks!!!!!
As far as ride goes, well it's a tad harder but that's ok, I'm completely happy with it.
Gotta be careful of rough roads but it does certainly handle a whole heap better tho. The springs of course are King Springs and I kept the original shocks.

Not sure how to interpret the part numbers but this is what I have...

FRONT: KHFL-47SL
REAR: CS-KHRL-46

gmeup, I'm gonna take some pics tomorrow and shove em on my web site.
Will post the URL tomorrow.

The cost from Midas (Blacktown) were... $196 for the front set and $183 for the rear set. Add about $175 for labour and $50 for GST. All up, around $604.

I'll see how the shocks go.
The guy there told me that as they were quite new, they really didn't need replacing. I am totally happy now with the results.

As Voodoo said, if you are going to lower, best to
replace the dampers. If your only going to lower
a little you might get away with it for a while, but
I would highly recommend replacing the original
Holden dampers with something better.

gmeup...If your have FE2 springs with Exec dampers
and want to go lower, you will definitely need to
change to shorter dampers. Unless you want to drive
a dangerous bouncing ball around. Even if you have
FE2 dampers, 50mm is too far for them to handle.

No offence chief, but looks pretty stock to me... I guess they didnt lower it that much (you didnt intend to scrape the road :D) Oh well at least the cops wont ever pull you over cos of it! Nice ride! :)

Are you for real? You have obviously not taken much
notice of the ride height of FE2. That is quite noticeably
lower than FE2. IMHO that is also a very sensible
ride height.

Na I guess your right! Just weird angle... the pics. You need to take the pics a bit lower of the ground as your not giving us a good look at just how low it is.

It's probably dropped by about a good inch and half, (maybe more) over stock.
I only wanted the guards to be just atop the top of the tyres, which they now are.
Oh... and lowering it much more and I'd be scrapping guards well before the road.

tron2004 the pics are nice and i think that its a sensible ride height not too over board but maybe if you could take some pics from a lower angle and postem that would be great...

hows the ride over FE2?

Springs in...springs out....springs in....springs out

Good to research first like you are or you end up doing the above like me.

Anyway...after going older Kings lows to Lovells super lows to Kings super lows to current Kings lows I LOVE my current springs. Nice height and a much better compromise than the SL's..

As per the current Kings catalogue for lowering an SS or R8
KHFL-47HD KHRL-46HD

Paid $130 a pair at Repco when they had a 20% off sale.

PS I reckon with the height of these things standard shocks ought to live a while...SL's I wouldnt even think about it personally

i've got the eibachs in mine, try http://www.heasmans.com.au, around $700 fitted from memory, so a little expensive. Around 350mm centre cap to guard lip from memory, about the same as the lowered SV8 pic shown here i think.

I'm using stock shocks with no noticable deterioration after 1 year. It's a little bumpy and jittery, i really should get some suited shocks.

As I said mine is 330mm centre cap to guard lip.
I have been thinking about shocks and more than likely after a few months I'll probably change to suit the lower springs. For now, I just can't feel any problems with the existing shocks.

Hey, a couple of those pics I had to bend the knees a tad to take the pic, but okay, okay... I'll grab some lower ones... :D

Ride qual over FE2 is just a tad harder.
The front seems to be quite harder than the rear (ie. not much movement if I push down on the front) but the trade off is more pronounced handling all up.

Man I dont know what the roads are like in sydney but there is no way you would survive in Brisvegas with that ride height. I have enough trouble getting over a lot of shoping carpark speed bumps on my stock ride height. Looks sweet as though!!

Tron your ride looks hot, i have a VY SS and have been speaking to a few guys about lowering it and they have all suggested a camber kit because the rear tyres tend to wear out wrong when lowered.. has anyone had problems with rear tyre wear???

no need, vy's (not too sure about previous models) have an adjustable bar in order to correct the rear camber

Looks sweet as though!!Exactly, I had my VUII lowered 2" front and 3" rear but the new one I've only dropped the back 1" to make it sit level, I loved the way it went around corners but I got sick of scraping the front bar all the time.

Is yours standard height at the front Lloyd? It looks lower than that - looks great. I'd have thought it was down at least 2''...

Thats exactly what I want to know! Did you guys have a camber kit fitted when you had your cars lowered??? I am changing my suspension setup next month & would like to know if it is worth the extra couple of hundred.

I know I didn't.
The rear wheels have always had a very slight negative camber and I can't say that I have noticed any large increase in that after lowering. I'll let ya know in a couple of months if I notice any odd tyre wear...
