As you guys would have read in my other thread i was at the hsv owners club show at paul waklening holden, there were new VZ HSV'S on display, after a close inspection revealed that the vz hsv's have complete ls6 donks from the zo6 corvette,i think thats awsome, they have also stayed with the cast headers like the vette, hsv are very smart and have done some homework, the ls6 heads are much better then the ls1,you could just fit cam to as vz series and get good results, though the pcm has changed dragisticly and so has the wiring, dont know if that will be a problem for the guys doing edit as the pcm is totally different.if u look to the right of the guard you will see the pcm.

I am a tad confused here I thought the VZ HSV's are using 6L LS2 engines irc the Z06 LS6 engine is the same capacity as the LS1.

They had these at holden ford show and they were 6 litre models not LS6

The LS2 uses LS6 cylinder heads it must be a LS2.

Your right Dan, the LS6 is the performance version of the 5.7 LS1 as in the ZO6 Vette, the LS2 as in the Z series HSV's is 6.0lt's.
The LS7 will be the higher output version of the LS2 but supposedly with a larger displacement than the LS2...6.2 up to 7.0 have been discussed.

Cam profile would differ to the LS6 as well wouldn't it ?

As far as I know GM powertrain division are only admitting to a possiblity of a 6.4 litre maximum at the present time for the LS7.

i think you should look before you state, part numbers on the block and heads clearly state "LS6" part numbers so the engine is a ls6 block & heads basically with 5 thou over pistons,so hence it is a ls6 engine ! whether the cam is or not,i dont know bout that.

the ls2 heads share the same casting number as the ls6

The ls2 block part number is 12589485,

No offense matey, but as an HSV owner, i think you are the one who should be looking at HSV's own website before stating!

Top line under 'Engine' in 'Powertrain'.

So LS6 and LS2 bare heads are the same casting/flow. LS6 just has lighter valves and different springs?

Thats strange, you would think if there different (meaning different casting) they would have there own casting number.

Guess we have to wait a few more months to a few people start stripping the donks down.

well thats wat i,m thinking if they were diff ,the casting numbers would have been,i looked in the thread strife put up "look inside the ls2" it says they are ls6 heads,so it beats me,i think its great they went to ls6 as they are much better heads than the ls1,sometimes u shouldnt belive everything you read...

Cylinder head design derived from the C5 Z06

LS2 has heads based on the LS6 ZO6 Corvette's heads. HSV VZ use an LS2 not the ZO6 LS1 engine. Power and torque are similar and LS2 is an evolution of the LS1.

The LS2 uses 243 LS6 heads, no issue there. Same heads the Z06 vette and C6 vette have.
