OK for those who dont know datadot is an anti theft deterrent used by HSV, subaru, BMW etc. They imprint your vehicle's VIN onto microscopic dots that are then sprayed all over and under your car in a varnish like coating. The theory is that it makes it easy for police to trace stolen parts. It has cut theft rates of HSV's and subies significantly.

I met someone yesterday who is a sales rep for datadot. They are doing this stuff aftermarket now for $300. He is trying to sell it to dealers as a post sale add on on new cars rather than to individuals, so he wasnt pushing the product to me.

I called my insurance coy today (AAMI) to see if I qualify for a discount on my policy, but the answer was no. I am still considering doing it for my peace of mind.

Has anyone had datadots installed aftermarket?

Does any insurer offer a discount?

Thanks

Sydney City Motorcycles datadot all the motorbikes they sell new or second hand, have been doing it for a couple of years.. The wife bought her bike from them. Neither NRMA or Western QBE seemed interested on the insurance front.
