my VX 2001 commodore - manual
I am looking around which brake pads (front and rear) to get - Bosch or Bendix or holden fitted brand. Any suggestions?

I had Bendix Ultimates fitted to my VX R8 when I had it and I would not use them. Must be the heavist brake dust pads I have used.

I've got the Bendix Ultimates. Previously Race brakes pads. I won't use Bendix again, even though they stop just as good and have a bigger pad area. They squeal more in the heat and are a tad more dusty. Next time around I will try the EBC greenstuffs or redstuffs.

thanks for the general info guys
Midas has a special going on at the moment - Bosch Pads for $99 (pair) supply and fitted - front and rear. Sounds like a deal to me. I got a quote from my holden dealer in Adelaide - Front pads $192 Rear Pads $132 fitted and supply and no disc machining. Funny that as they will not tell me who makes holden brake pads - they say its genuine part.

you can pick up Bosch for around $70 from supercheap (supply only) - but they're not that flash, so $99 is about right for install (pads on a Commodore is a 10 minute job).

I've tried almost everything:

stock
bosch
$40 specials
EBC greenstuff
EBC redstuff
and am currently on Racebrakes RB74's

and the winner is (for my driving style): EBC Redstuff

bear in mind I like the odd twisty run, and rotor-glow has been known to happen once or twice.

so here's my take:

stock: VERY average, but quiet and no dust
bosh: pretty much same as stock
$40 specials: definately not
EBC greenstuff: good, not a huge amount of dust, had resin problems on the discs and hence shudder. If you have good bolt-on performance, can be made to fade. Some people have had noise problems, although EBC guarantee against this.
EBC redstuff: very good, first stop of the morning is about 90% (need some warmth) but then they're awesome, havent managed to get them to fade, except with repeated 220kph stops at Sandown
Racebrakes: same performance as Redstuff but dont need the initial warmup, but dust OMFG!!! I've never seen dust like it, and boy do they eat discs....looks like 70-80% of a disc in one set of pads is about right.

I am currently on Racebrakes (soon to wear out) and have not yet decided what's next, but I think I might give the Ferodo's a go, otherwise buy the PBR Performance setup.

If you want some more performance opinions, PM JusticeR8, as he has tried most/all of the HP options.

Hope that's some help :)

Hey guys

What are ferodo's, I have never heard of them before.
What do they retail for and where do you get them?
Otherwise I take it EBC are the next recommendation?

I'm still running standard brake setup on the vx, when I do the change over I'd be looking at slotted rotors and pads. If I really get into it probably a package to upgrade the callipers. HSV package is a bit expensive though.

Cheers

Formula Ferodo get the big tick here...dust levels are quite ok, and stop really really well on the street and doing laps at Wakefield . I think the ones I got a couple of years back were the TS2000 (2000 series).

Back then I had to get the rear ones cut to size because they didn't make them for the standard rear calipers on commodores. Hoping that has changed now because as far as a hot street and track day pad goes, these are great.

I went FF (I was one of their test drivers in OZ b4 their release)
on std rotors and then chucked on DBA slotted/Xdrilled
and with another set of 'green' Formula Ferodo
away I went again on the street and on the track...awesome braKes

they are now available for the rears (std size calipers!)
I have a set in the garage about to go on!

Agree with you there. a tad? thats an understatement  I forget what I have on now, only new pads too and they sometimes squeal, race pads thou, these days the pads have more metal in them now, hence the odd squeal, but you get that.
